Job description

Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a PhD-Prospective Material Accessibility And Substitution Based on Geopolitical And Environmental Drivers  (f/m) to join the materials and processes engineering team in Airbus  based in Toulouse, France.

This thesis, based on work already initiated propose, to develop a prospective model which evaluates THE RISKS linked to the accessibility of critical materials according to geopolitical and environmental parameters opposed to strategic delivery schedules, the delivery forecast, until 2050.

This model is intended to be PROSPECTIVE and not PREDICTIVE, that is to say that the aim will be to generate possible futures by scripting certain events, for example future regulations limiting the use of water in foundries or to change over time the aviation market shares in the sector of certain metals and to verify the overall effects and the orders of magnitude which can impact accessibility.

It will be appropriate to develop this model through use cases such as the Titanium, Aluminum and CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) sector in order to allow us to have a concrete basis for validating the model.

But given the lack of data, a combined approach to validate this model will be necessary via a quantitative validation step and a qualitative step.

The thesis can be carried out in 4 stages:

·
Bibliography analysis and identification of recent applications of multidisciplinary optimal design (COM), eco-selection of materials including risks, cost and geostrategy and as well as the different disciplines involved in the design of a typical aerostructure (manufacturing, life cycle analysis)

·
From this analysis, it is necessary to prepare a COM architecture for a simplified test case with few disciplines and simplified methods on a typical aerostructure.

·
In the next step, it will be necessary to increase the level of complexity until its limits are defined, particularly with a view to designing an aircraft.

·
Ultimately, it will be asked to develop an IT tool for coupling with the projections of integrated evaluation models (IAM) based on premise and brightway2 (opensource)
