The successful candidate shall work in the Overall Aircraft Architect department mainly focused on A350, within the Structures Engineering Centre of Airbus in the UK. This department is developing state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to detecting, locating and assessing structural damage in metallic and composite structures. These results are displayed live during testing to allow a full understanding of the health of the structure and to carry out the appropriate course of action.

Internships at Airbus Group

Tasks & accountabilities

The Intern shall be installing and monitoring structural health monitoring equipment on Airbus structures. This work will allow the detection of damage during testing, which is part of the technology qualification process.

The Intern shall develop wireless structural health monitoring for thick composite material in order to detect potential impact to the structure during assembly, such as tool drop or structure mishandling. The work also includes evaluation of component of the shelf parts under the influence of temperature, wireless range, impact level, and available energy in order to completely characterise the way the device works and define potential limitation.

Take part in review meetings of Government-funded projects.

The Intern shall also carry out some management tasks to widen her/his expertise to day-to-day managerial activities in industrial environment.

You will have the opportunity to visit various Airbus sites as part of your Internship.

Desired profile

Required skills

Must be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the Internship, studying towards an Engineering degree - preferably Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical.
