An exciting opportunity has arisen in Getafe within the Materials & Processes (M&P) Laboratories team (1ACMLA) for a Materials Failure Analyst on a temporary basis.


We are looking for a candidate with expertise in material science, mechanical engineering and analytical techniques. The role is performed within a transnational environment with access to advanced laboratory technologies in order to investigate failures originating from in-service aircraft spanning the complete Airbus product range.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work and collaborate with other Failure Analyst and a wide range of customers and stakeholders including Stress, Design, Chief Engineering and Airworthiness teams. You will have at your disposal an impressive inventory of advanced analytical equipment and material characterization assets at our excellently equipped M&P Getafe facility which you will utilize during the course of your Failure Analysis investigations.

What will you be doing?

You will play a lead role in determining the failure mechanisms, establishing the facts and presenting evidence based data and conclusions. Your contribution will support the root cause of the failure, enable product improvement and ultimately assist in the prevention of failure reoccurrence.
Your investigations will originate from a wide variety of sources, including:

Incident or Accident

· 
In-Service Occurrence

· 
Flight Test Problems

· 
Structural Tear Down

· 
Component & System Test Damage

· 
Production / plants

· 
You will not be alone, you will join a passionate and motivated team of investigators (20) working and collaborating across four countries.
What are your main responsibilities?

· 
Performing end to end Failure Analysis Investigations inside and outside of the Airframe Perimeter involving all necessary cross-functional and transnational stakeholders.

· 
Responsibility for the final material related evaluation of the results.

· 
Performing material characterization through analytical methods, (e.g. metallography, chemical analysis and testing).

· 
Determining the failure mechanism on aircraft structure and parts by  fractographic analysis.

· 
Prepare a comprehensive and high quality report detailing the investigation and its results/conclusions. 

· 
Support activities that secure the safety, quality and operational reliability of equipment and assets used during the course of Failure Investigations

· 
Required skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

· 
Educated to Masters level (or equivalent) in Materials science, mechanical engineering or a related discipline.

· 
Failure analysis techniques and the principles of conducting a technical investigation.

· 
Working experience in the field of airframe materials and structures.

· 
Ability to listen, understand and communicate information.

· 
Ability to make decisions based on evidence.

· 
Desire to work in an open and trusting environment.

· 
Ability to effectively plan and manage own workload.

· 
English and Spanish advanced.

· 
Metallography, fractography, analytical examinations and testing of different metallic and composite materials.

· 
Experience in composite / chemical analysis would be an advantage.

·
