A vacancy for a Materials and Process Engineer (d/f/m) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Manching. The successful applicant will join “Organic & Composite”.

Tasks & accountabilities

The Materials and Processes Department is responsible to provide M&P Engineering Support to design, procurement, manufacturing and Quality assurance for Military Aircraft products. The main focus is on composites in terms of support of legacy programs as well as developments for new programs. Furthermore, activities driven by environmental legislation need to be covered.

Tasks and accountabilities:

• Act as responsible materials engineer for one or more projects or subprojects as necessary.
• Interface to internal and external customers to ensure that all M&P aspects for project usage are fully approved within the project timescales and with respect to customer quality requirements.
• Prepare, support and evaluate test campaigns for coupon and parts testing.
• Investigate and manage until completion materials and processes selection, development evaluation and qualification programs
• Prepare M&P specifications and ensure that adequate M&P qualification has been achieved by appropriate reviews.
• Review and approve subcontractor/supplier materials and processes documentation. Monitor the technical performance of subcontractors and suppliers and participate in audits
• Share information and knowledge. Provide a support as a technical authority for materials and processes related qualifications and approvals.
• Actively participate in transnational meetings to drive the standardisation of materials and processes between sites and assigned projects.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

• Holding a PhD in Material Sciences or similar
• Experience of working in a controlled high technology environment, ideally in aerospace or defence, Experience in non-metallic materials as well as surface treatments
• Experience in coupon and parts testing and laboratory work
• Experience in test requirements definition and results evaluation
• Materials and processes knowledge in relevant fields of surface technology and non-metallic materials
• Good interpersonal skills, communication and presentation capability, openness and flexibility
• Interdisciplinary thinking and can-do attitude as well as Creativity to think about new ways of doing
• Good working skills in failure analysis techniques and facilitation skills for leading problem solving and risk analysis
• Autonomy, ability to work with minimum supervision
• Appreciation of audits and continuous improvement
• Awareness of health, safety and environment
• Availability national and international travel
• English and German fluent
