Description of the job
A vacancy for a MAIT Engineering Process Owner has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Stevenage.
You will provide the Mechanical Engineering inputs, based on robust processes and procedures, for the production of fully integrated Satellite Telecoms and ENS.
The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
Tasks & accountabilities
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
I/ Project Preparation Phase:
· Support to the customisation phase starting at the project kick off.
· Attend project DMU sessions to ensure design for manufacture specific to process.
· Create the documentation required for the production phases, including: Work Masters, work instructions, and procedures and specifications.
· Review and approve all unplanned work relevant to their process. Deviation Plans and As Runs specific to process before execution. Provide feedback to author and ensure all resources (materials, tooling, requirements and methodology) are defined.
· Ensure that specific product requirements, taken from the Packing, Handling and Transport Specification, are captured and included in work masters, work instructions and procedures.
· Technical Input to project / product to ensure that new process and test methods are optimised, for AIT activities including production / process time definition. (Design for Manufacture / Assembly & Design for Test).
· Prepare inputs to MRR to support Product Lead Engineer.
II/ Project Operational Phase:
· Technical liaison with all concerned stakeholders for process issues, i.e. lead investigations, occurrence's resolution and operational support.
· Support quality reviews and Root Cause Analysis using lean tools.
· Produce re-work instructions / deviation plans based on project requirements and identify parts and tooling required to carry them out. (materials, tooling, requirements and methodology).
III/ Non Project:
· Definition (requirements specification) and Design of tooling / build aids for manufacturing execution
· Support to R&D (as required) for process developments ensuring optimised production process is established.
· Training module creation and maintenance.
· Responsible for ensuring that our working modes and processes are standardised, optimised, and current.
· Produce new processes, undertake process improvement and maintenance and monitor process implementation in operations, including process measurement and times.
This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.
Reasonable amount of overtime and occasional shifts where workload demands.
Possibility to support out of normal hours work using the “on call” rota process.

Required skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
· Experience in a Manufacturing & Production Engineering environment within the Aerospace industry.
· Good understanding and detailed experience of all types of Manufacturing Systems.
· Experience of Lean Engineering and strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques including 5S, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
· Support to production and knowledge of machining, assembly and detail fitting processes.
· Mechanical handling equipment (tooling, Jigs and test equipment).
· Experience in writing engineering documents, Procedures and Process control.
· Quality driven approach with high attention to detail.
· High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi project / product basis.
· Good problem solving skills (technical, logistics and organisational).
· Good planning skills and process competence, (MRP system experience an advantage).
· Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable skills:
· Clean room experience.
· Mechanical design / validation / experience.
· FMEA Experience.
· Knowledge of continuous improvement philosophies.
· Knowledge of Health and Safety principles and their application to the specific environment.
