Description of the job

Are you an experienced Linux / Unix Systems Administrator interested in looking after a large and complex, Corporate, estate? Interested in working with a multi-functional, multi-national, team looking after a wide range of services and projects? Interested in a role where you can shape the future of Airbus Defence and Space Linux / Unix systems and services?

Then this will be the role for you!

As a Linux / Unix Sys Admin you will be joining a close-knit, welcoming, team of 5 dedicated Linux / Unix professionals who are part of a larger team of 16. You will be joining a team of experienced techies, who knowledge share and work with up-to-date technology.

This role is based in Stevenage and is a full time role Monday to Friday with requirement to cover on call in rota. The rota is 1 week a month (inc evening and weekend) for major incidents, you will be compensated with an on-call allowance.

This role requires UK travel a couple of times a month and occasional European travel.

Tasks & accountabilities

As a Linux / Unix Administrator, your main duties will be:

·  Mentoring, sharing knowledge and having an input into day-to-day duties
·  Effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure, across a large and complex Estate.
·  Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values; enabling staff, volunteers, and partners.
·  Work with Security to ensure that solutions comply with regulatory and security policies.
·  Recommend improvements to existing infrastructure.
·  Support actively a "Work together" approach between teams working on an ITIL based model.

Required skills

As a Linux / Unix Systems Administrator, you will be joining a department that is going through change and therefore have the opportunity to shape the services and systems that you provide. To be successful for this role, you must have the following skills / experience:

·  Linux Distro (Redhat / Ubuntu / Debian or similar) with an interest in working with RHEL - Red Hat Enterprise Linux
·  Background in Linux / Unix Integration and consolidation of systems and services
·  Scripting for Automation - Shell Scripting / ksh / Bash / Perl / Python
·  LVM (Logical Volume Management) awareness
·  An understanding of TCP/IP networking
·  Experience supporting systems running databases
·  Experience in managing projects or team leadership is desirable
