Description of the job

An opportunity has arisen to join the Flight Physics Capability Team as a Flight Physics Capability Developer in the UK, based at Airbus Filton.
In the context of consolidating and defining new simulation means to enable the future flight physics processes linked to the EG Strategy captured in the Green Book, the job holder will be responsible for the definition, the development, the maintenance and support of a large set of Aerodynamic tools and multi-fidelity Frameworks that will contribute to the out-of-cycle Multi-Disciplinary Design & Optimisation Process.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

o Work across the capability organization to capture the various available capabilities, needs and requirements for multi-fidelity Aerodynamics for R&T, M&T and Aircraft Programmes
o Integrate Rapid CFD Tools into a common Framework, WISDOM, to improve the aerodynamic and multi-disciplinary process and provide a better end-user experience.
o Develop and maintain good links with multi-fidelity aerodynamics stakeholder across the business and ensure compatibility and capability sharing
o Implement and demonstrate the value of new simulation means on concrete use cases.
o Uses his/her experience to assess and validate the physics behind the calculated results to verify & validate the output.
o Communicate the findings and propose technical plans & associated roadmaps to go forward.
o Take the role of Product Line Owner for Rapid CFD which involves taking the responsibility for the complete development cycle and the management of the Rapid CFD product line backlog for maintenance and small evolutions. The Product Line owner is responsible for delivering the right capabilities to the customers, with the appropriate quality, the right time and within the agreed budget in line with the capability strategy. Link with the appropriate Project manager for the development in M&T or R&T to ensure support and maintenance activities are completed according to Time-Cost-Quality.
o Manage the transnational EGA Customer Interface, ensuring good collaboration with EGA, participating to the regular customer interface meetings for High-speed and Low-speed.

Required skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:

o A Good general engineering knowledge in the physics of the flight.
o A former working experience in Flight Physics or elsewhere in the wider transnational core engineering community would be an advantage.
o A background in Aerodynamics, Handling Qualities and/or Loads in particular would be preferable.
o Good developer skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, C++, Eclipse, Fortran.
o A willingness to develop prototypes under agile/sprint environment.
o Excellent team working experience with ability to coordinate, motivate and support other colleagues.
o Good networking and communication skills to effectively interact within local and transnational teams, with suppliers and customers.
o Enthusiastic, intellectually curious and a 'can do / will do' attitude.
o Aptitude for problem-solving and innovation.
o Previous experience of leadership and/or project management would be preferable.
