Description of the job

Airbus Defence and Space offers the opportunity to embark on an exciting Engineering Apprenticeship within the space sector specifically focusing on the manufacture of satellites at our Portsmouth site.

The first year of the Apprenticeship will be spent full time at a college local to the respective site you have applied for and will encompass both academic and practical training elements in a variety of topics including Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

On successful completion of the first year at college, you will have achieved the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) and BTEC National in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Qualifications.

The final two years of the scheme will be spent undertaking various rotations across the business whilst concurrently completing a day release course at college working towards achieving an NVQ Level 3 and a HNC in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

Through onsite placements you will cover many disciplines ranging from design, manufacturing and Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) to Engineering, Quality Assurance and Cost Engineering. There are currently 32 placement opportunities across the business. Placements opportunities can include:

·  Satellite Mechanical Engineering
·  Electrical Test
·  Mechanical Engineering Structures and many more.

Required skills

To apply, you must have or be predicted at least 5 GCSE's with a Grade B or 6 in Maths and a Grade C or 4 in English and a Science.

You will demonstrate a passion for Engineering either through hobbies or your educational choices. For example, if you have been involved with an Engineering club at school, if you are a member of a society or you simply enjoy fixing things either from a mechanical or electrical perspective.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
