Job Description

The Flight Physics Capabilities Domain is looking for a talented and motivated CFD software developer.

Mission of the Domain

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Flight Physics capabilities domain is in charge of developing and maintaining the simulation means needed for a wide variety of disciplines such as aerodynamics, loads, handling qualities, mass or A/C performance. In that mission, the associated teams play a central role in the on-going end-to-end digitalization of Airbus processes for aircraft design, manufacturing and services, while at the same time supporting the growth of the production and support of today’s products.

The Role

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has progressed rapidly during the last several decades and has fundamentally changed the aircraft design process.

Supporting the aero designer at the beginning, the advances of this computational science, closely coupled with the rapid progress of High Performance Computing (HPC) hardware at the same time, has become an essential capability in the simulation-based engineering design process. Nevertheless, the reliable use of these solvers has remained confined to a small but important region of the operating design space due to the inability of current methods and physical modelling to simulate robustly the aerodynamics of complex manoeuvres in an affordable time scale for industrial design cycle.

Over the years Airbus has partnered with research centres DLR and ONERA - both individually and together - for developing separate CFD solvers with different technics and cultures.  While HPC is on the cusp of a paradigm shift in technology and, the current solvers may require a rethinking of current CFD algorithms and software.

In this context Airbus, DLR and ONERA have just launched a 5-years partnership to develop a common New Generation of CFD solver enabling to model situations not covered by existing computational fluid dynamics software and to sustain future advances in CFD and hardware.

In this role, you will be fully involved in the continued development and the validation of this new CFD software and its integration in the Airbus FlowSimulator framework. You will interact with a wide range of customers involved in aerodynamic shape design, fluid-structure interaction simulation, multidisciplinary analysis and optimization processes.

Moreover, you will:

# Work closely within a transnational capabilities development team

# contribute in animating the interfaces between Airbus and its external Research Establishment as capability development team member

# support the overall and global strategy for the Airbus computational simulation

# be involved in the network of highly motivated, experienced and skills researchers and developers

# gather and disseminate knowledge of methodologies, requirements and lessons learnt across the teams

In addition as the IGDC capability specialist you will also:

# Show initiative in the proactive way of working in the Flight Physics environment widely expending usage of transverse workflows and harmonized working environment;

# Provide support to customers on developed tools;

# Contribute to the collection of ideas and initiatives on how to improve transverse way of working through Agile method;

We particular seek individuals who will be able to make a direct contribution to the development of our existing and future tool frameworks.

Required Skills

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and competencies;

- Ph.D. in engineering, applied mathematics or computer science plus 3-years-old industrial experience.

- Mastering state of the art Computational Fluid Dynamics methods in one or more areas of CFD or multi-physics modelling including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, fluid-structure interaction, turbulence resolving.

- Expertise in several areas of numerical methods including finite volume, finite elements on structured or unstructured grids fitting with modern HPC hardware.

- Mastering Object oriented programming (C++ and Python)

- Experience developing and/or testing large scale academic, open source, industrial or commercial CFD codes.

- Knowledge of source control, continuous integration and software testing tools.

- Leadership - ability to bring people together

- Good interpersonal skills

- Innovative mind-set - Ability to convince

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

By submitting your CV or application you are consenting to Airbus using and storing information about you for monitoring purposes relating to your application or future employment. This information will only be used by Airbus.
