Airbus UpNext Internship 2025 - CRYOPROP Cryogenic cooling system (m/f)
Stage Toulouse (Haute Garonne) IT development
Job description
Job Description:
The Cryogenic cooling system internship is within Airbus UpNext' CRYOPROP team.
This internship will ideally begin in February (date subject to flexibility), and will last for a period of 4 to 6 months.
Main Missions
The superconductors are a class of materials that presents a zero electrical resistance to a DC current when cooled at cryogenic temperatures. Thus, the maximal current, a superconductor can accept, reaches values that can be hundred times more important than a conventional copper conductor. The interest for these materials, used in the electrical engineering applications, appears immediately. This is the reason why beyond the solutions for the future aircraft, the superconducting electrical machines emerge as a serious candidate to reduce the weight/volume or increase the efficiency.
As a Cryogenic cooling system intern, you will be part of the CRYOPROP team and in charge of building a cryogenic cooling setup to be used for superconducting coils and machines prototypes testing.
The internship will be a rewarding experience if you are passionate about aeronautics, sciences, new technologies, and have a strong background in thermal engineering, thermodynamics and a strong appetite for lab and hands on working.
Specific knowledge about the superconducting phenomenon and cryogenics is not required and this adventure will be a good opportunity for you to experience some cutting-edge technologies that researchers are facing today to think about the world of tomorrow.
You will be part of an ambitious and flexible project execution with a diverse technical team, with partners from worldwide industry and academia, start-ups in a dynamic and emulating environment.
You work collaboratively, with humility and are a constant learner about how to improve your knowledge and the performance of yourself.
Responsibilities:
As a Cryogenic cooling system intern, your mission is to build a cryogenic cooling system based on a pumped liquid nitrogen bath and gaseous helium circulation which includes the following responsibilities:
▪ Understand the working principle of pumped bath cooling and fluid behavior in a cooling loop.
▪ Interface with the cryogenic and mechanical team members to support on:
o Performing the thermodynamics and thermal calculation for the system sizing.
o Selecting the connecting components to assemble the elements composing the cooling system.
▪ Read and understand the operating manual of the system components.
▪ Realise, assemble and test the cryogenic cooling system and operate the components.
▪ Implement the system instrumentation and data acquisition for monitoring the cooling system.
Your boarding pass
What you will bring:
▪ Master degree in engineering or equivalent
▪ Previous knowledge in thermodynamics and thermal engineering.
▪ Basic understanding to other scientific fields such as electricity & mechanic
▪ Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability
▪ Team-Player
▪ Hands-on and solution oriented attitude
▪ Passion about technology, science
▪ Transparency, courage, humility, empathy
▪ Willingness to have fun.
What you will get:
·
Being part of a project at the edge of applied cryogenics
·
An environment that not only fosters your development in many ways, but also rewards it with plenty of room to grow
·
A high-achieving, experienced and fun team
