Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a Principal Engineer with strong experience of rail bridge inspection, assessment and remediation.  In recent years, AECOM has developed and expanded its work in the rail sector, to the extent that it is one of the leading UK consultants for the design and assessment management of railway infrastructure.

Due to an increasing and diverse workload with rail infrastructure projects, there is an opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join our team in Croydon. The Croydon office is playing an increasing role in AECOM’s involvement in structural assessment of structures in rail environments.

The successful candidate will have proven project management experience delivering railway infrastructure assessment projects to quality, time and budget.  The role would suit a self motivated individual looking to advance their career in a very dynamic team.

The Croydon office has an established track record of successfully delivering major transport schemes.  Our newly refurbished office in the heart of Croydon has good transport links and accommodates a multi-disciplinary transport design center.  We are now looking to enhance and grow the team with individuals with a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.

The team workload ranges from feasibility studies to scheme designs, detailed designs, assessments, inspections, construction support and management services on a wide range of bridges and associate railway infrastructure schemes. The team is involved in local, national and international work with a variety of clients both from the public and private sector including design & build partnerships with contractors.

Our current portfolio of work comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international bridges and structures projects.

A list of some of the projects we are currently working on in the Croydon office are:

•CAFA Rail Bridge inspection and assessment. Long term commission with bridge sites located to the Anglia and LNW lines.

•Northern Hub D&B commission for major rail infrastructure  improvements in Manchester.

•Riyadh Metro Project. Detailed design of post tensioned concrete elevated viaduct structures for lines 1 and 2.

•Wessex Capacity Enhancement Programme. Alliance framework to deliver improvements to the Wessex network including Waterloo International station remodelling and lengthening platforms 1-8 and improvements at Vauxhall, Clapham Junction, Wimbledon, Richmond, Surbiton and Windsor Stations.

•HS2 phase 2.

Job Responsibilities:

•Effectively control commercial, managerial and technical aspects of projects or parts thereof for which you are responsible.

•Preparing fee proposals for submission to client, including resources and program.

•Leading a team of engineers and technicians designing transportation structures including bridges and railway structures.

•Undertaking bridge design and assessment projects, performing analyses and calculations as appropriate.

•Supervising work, ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard and that it is managed to program and budget.

Minimum Requirements

•A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent with experience of Structural Engineering in directly relevant fields.

•Full lifecycle experience across a range of projects, including new-build, refurbishment and assessment work relating to bridges and rail structures.

•Ability to deliver design solutions, assessment calculations, lead teams and successfully manage projects.

•Ability to demonstrate experience and understanding of Health, Safety and Welfare including CDM responsibilities.

•A solid track record having worked on a variety of projects, possibly as a project leader on some, with experience of dealing directly with clients.

•A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and a Chartered Engineer.

•You will have a flexible approach to supporting the project and business development activities across wider AECOM geographies, for example in Mainland Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa.
