Purpose
Are you excited about data? Do you have a passion for programming and working in leading edge Big Data technologies?
As a Data Engineer Big Data you will explore internal and external data sources, integrate them and add proper context in order to help us understand and anticipate the needs of our consumers in a better way. In this context you will master a huge variety of data points on an enterprise wide big data platform and interact with our internal data science organization to deliver high quality input for the purpose of actionable insights generation.
In this role you will directly contribute to the adidas Group’s mission of becoming the fastest learning sports brand in the industry, which materializes in engaging consumers to make them life-long adidas advocates, proactively learning from consumers and rapidly reacting to their demands, as well as systematically utilizing data driven insights to continuously improve product offerings.
Key Accountabilities
· Actively drive the Big Data technology roadmap for the adidas Group
· Explore data sources (e.g. clickstream, mobile tracking, social media, behavioural data from retail stores, etc.) in terms of relevance, data quality, accessibility and coverage
· Model new data points in the context of an enterprise wide analytical data model, document semantics and specify relations to existing data points
· Program data integration and transformation routines from data ingestion to the final data mart layer in the big data platform
· Develop apps for insights consumption by end users
· Act as single point of contact for data related inquiries from data scientists and analysts
· Specify and implement a data governance concept covering data protection, IT security, data access control, data quality control and data lifecycle management
Qualifications
· A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or other relevant field
· Experience working in the Hadoop ecosystem and related projects (ideally Spark)
· Experience with object oriented programming languages (Scala, Java, Python, etc.)
· Experience with RDBMS and SQL
· Experience with data modeling in an analytical context
· Experience with data visualization tools
· Good communication in English (both written and verbal)
Team
The mission of the Big Data Team is to establish an integrated, enterprise wide Big Data Platform that allows adidas to analyse the interaction of consumers and the brand in a broader context and generate insights to fuel the group’s mission to become the fastest learning sports company in the industry. To fulfil that purpose the team mainly consists of data engineers (provisioning data in a data-science-ready state) and data scientists (generating insights through algorithms) working closely together under one roof.
