Adecco are currently recruiting for a Welfare Reform Officer to work within a Local Authority based in Ealing.

The Welfare Reform Officer's purpose;

To comply with Ealing Council's Code of Conduct, Equality & Diversity policy and Health & Safety policy.
* To reduce the need for legal action against tenants and leaseholders, reducing the Council's legal costs and homelessness and to promote the importance of paying rent and service charges through presentations and publications.
* To ensure that, at the start of a tenancy, the new rent account is set up accurately and promptly and that the tenant is paying the correct rent as agreed at sign up.
* To check cases referred for legal action to ensure the pre court action protocol has been adhered to and to interview/visit the tenant to offer expert advice, aiming to reach a payment agreement that will prevent legal proceedings.
* To check cases prior to requesting council authority to commence eviction proceedings, to interview/visit the tenant, to liaise with other agencies and services, aiming to reach a payment agreement that will prevent eviction.
* To check service charge cases, which are being considered for legal action, to interview/visit the leaseholder and to reach a payment agreement acceptable to the council that will prevent the commencement of legal proceedings against the leaseholder

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
* Knowledge of housing and housing benefit legislation and services.
* Ability to negotiate rent payments with tenants and tenants debt repayments with third parties.
* High standard of communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to draft correspondence without supervision; the ability to compile information into simple factual reports; and the ability to explain complex rules to service users over the telephone and face to face.
* Ability to carry out basic calculations.
* Ability to deliver customer services to a diverse community in a professional and courteous manner.
* Ability to deal with difficult situations in a way that tries to resolve issues for the customer.
* Goes the extra mile to get things done and takes pride in delivering a good service.
* Ability to be flexible and to use own initiative to achieve results.
* Able to meet activity deadlines by planning work around conflicting priorities and able to understand and deliver project objectives in target.
* Ability to work in partnership with other agencies and teams to achieve results and objectives and to deliver a customer focused service.
* Able to work confidently with Information Technology, able to store, retrieve and use information to make appropriate decisions.
* Able to take personal responsibility for actions and outcomes, addressing issues and problems immediately, seeking support when necessary and continually striving to improve own performance.
