My client designs and makes one off bespoke furniture in partnership with their clients and are renowned for the quality of work, attention to detail and customer service.They require an organised and experienced Upholsterer who enjoys working to exacting standards and takes pride in the quality of their work. Applicants must have the drive to maintain the integrity of the business and work hard to produce the best for our client.
The role will be physically demanding, involving lifting and carrying furniture.

You will be responsible for:

As an upholsterer, you will run your own department, upholstering furniture such as chairs, benches and sofas using both traditional and modern techniques. Our reputation and collaboration with our restoration department also involves reupholstery and working with antique furniture. A level of understanding or willingness to learn about appropriate techniques for the age of each piece is essential.
Your job could involve any of the following:
● Fixed upholstery, traditional upholstery using horsehair, modern upholstery, cushions and loose covers.
●Estimating fabric quantities, advising on fabrics, preparing patterns and templates cutting out fabric and making cushions
●Working to deadlines whilst maintaining high quality. planning the work and estimating costs
●Preparing patterns and templates
●Cutting out fabric
●Fixing webbing and springs
●Covering frames with padding and fabric using stitching, staples, tacks or glue
●Making cushions
●Adding trimmings like piping, fringing and buttons
●Removing old upholstery before reupholstering
●Helping to collect or deliver furniture to the client.
●Keeping your working area, and department, clean and tidy and organised in line with H&S requirements
Skills required:
●Cutting
●Patterning
●Sewing
●Tacking
●Good knowledge of soft covers and leathers
●Good knowledge of historical upholstery techniques
●Attention to detail
●Safety awareness
●Ability to lift heavy objects on a daily basis
●Ability to discuss upholstery with clients
●UK Drivers License
●Proactive and self-motivated
