Junior Mainframe Operator

Job description

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:
· Performs Day to Day Adhoc and routine Operations duties as required by the BAS Operations Team;
· Perform Interface Processing to BAS (Day shift); and
· Perform Batch Processing for BAS (Night Shift).

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

Day-to-Day Activities:

Interface Processing – Ensuring that all Interfaces are received and processed within the required time frames. All failed interfaces are escalated through Remedy within 30 minutes of the interface failing with an e-mail to the relevant support personel. This includes specifying all the relevant details in the logged Request.

Batch Processing – Ensure all Production and Non-production Batches are run and completed withing the required time frames. All critical Batch failures are escalated to the relevant standby person with the correct error details withing 30 minutes of the error. Adhoc Request Processing – Execute all approved BAS Operations Requests as needed within the required time frames.

Communicate all issues or problems with suggested solutions where possible to BAS Operations Supervisor or Technical Team Leader.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQIURED:
· Working knowledge of DB2, WINDOWS XP/7, MVS, SQL, CICS and JCL.
· Batch processing concepts
· Understand Rexx Exec execution in JCL and TSO
· Control M on z/OS
· QMF for z/OS
· TSO for z/OS

Preferred Skills:
· Able to add, remove or modify JCLs run from Control M Scheduling Tool.
· Able to code Rexx Execs to automate routine tasks and maintain existing Rexx Execs

Qualifications :

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE NECESSARY:
·  Matric Certificate
·  Minimum 2 years experience as an Operations Operator in a z/OS environment
·  Minimum 2 years experience working under minimal supervision.
·  Minimum 2 years experience working with Control M or product to execute required JCLs withing required time frames.
·  Minimum 2 years experience using SQL INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and INSERT.
·  Minimum 2 years experience escalating the correct error information to the relevant support staff on standby.
