The Dock - Agile Automation Test Coach

  • Infra / Networks / Telecom

Job description

The Dock is a multidisciplinary research and incubation hub, where designers, doctors, visionaries and makers are doing things that matter for people, places and robots. Located in the heart of the Dublin Docklands in a connected, state-of-the-art workspace designed for creativity, collaboration and fun.

We're looking for an Agile Testing Coach to join our growing organisation. Operating across all stages of the innovation spectrum, with a remit to build the future in real-time. The working environment will be open and interactive facilitating collaboration with colleagues, clients and ecosystem partners. Our experimentation culture, combined with a disruptive brief will ensure that together we make major societal impacts.

Are you ready to join top innovators making a global impact?

Key features of the role

Agile teams work differently – we ship frequently and believe that quality is at the heart of what we do. Rather than having a dedicated testing team who test our code, we take equal responsibility and pride in what we build.

At Accenture's Centre for Innovation, we work with the newest and most ground-breaking technology, producing prototypes, proofs of concept and pilots of software that will change the world. With experts in AI and machine learning, IoT and wearables, Analytics, VR and augmented reality, no project that our engineering teams work on are ever the same. Even though we're producing prototypes in super-short time frames (our projects are typically 1-3 months), we know that quality can never slip.

Squads at the Centre are collaborative and eclectic. Builds may be anything from a wireframe or a single page web application in Angular, to a hybrid mobile app in React Native. We may build microservices built on next generation machine learning algorithms or a MVP built with node.js or Java. Because the teams are flexible and the projects highly varied we need to ensure that quality is appreciated by all of our team members. With a focus on continuous integration and a DevOps mindset, we also need our coaches to fully understand agile methodologies and the current state of the art in testing methodologies – from linting to BDD and TDD, through to the use of tools like Mocha, Chai and Selenium and mobile test suites.

This role will be one of our first Agile Testing Coaches on the ground, giving you the ability to build our testing approaches, our philosophy around quality and inform the tools and practices we use. A Testing Coach (or Quality Coach) will be responsible for ensuring that teams produce great products with a mix of coaching, mentoring and hands-on testing, leading by example. We anticipate that each Agile Testing Coach to be responsible for coaching 2-3 squads. There is no dedicated test resource, and definitely no throw-it-over-the-wall mentality tolerated.

What's in it for you?
With a name like the Centre for Innovation, you can be sure that you'll be working on anything but the ordinary. With a focus on rapid delivery of high quality software products that help us test our design thinking approach with real customers, you will never be working on the same project twice.

What we're looking for
As an Agile Testing Coach at the Centre, you will be working with agile teams, or squads, coaching them in both understanding how to build high quality software and in testing best practice. You will be a seasoned professional with a deep appreciation for the nuances of testing, having experience in automated, smoke, regression and performance testing. You'll be at your best when coaching others, but will be renowned for your mastery of the testing domain.

Ideally you will have previous Test/QA Lead experience, working with testing and development teams on web and mobile development. We don't expect you to be an expert developer, but you will need to be at a conversational level with modern architectures (you should have familiarity with at least one programming language, HTML, CSS and developer tools like grunt, git and Jenkins).

It would be ideal if you have experience working in Agile squads, preferably in fast moving environments.

Desired profile

The Bullet Points
·  Develop the approach to quality and testing, ensuring that it continually evolves and improves
·  Ensure that squads working across a number of parallel agile projects are creating high quality products
·  Be a renowned expert in testing and Quality Assurance, both within the Centre for Innovation and in the wider Dublin technology community.
·  Propose and curate the test strategy, processes and tools to deliver in an Agile environment
·  Champion approaches like The Three Amigos
·  Work as a chapter lead for other Agile Coaches as the Centre grows
·  Combine both hands-on mastery of testing and an ability to coach.
Technical Skills
This is a list of things which should at least look familiar. At best, you'll have forgotten more about these things than most people ever knew. Examples are given of the types of technology you may use, but we expect that an expert in one will be able to talk about the comparative benefits of the alternatives…
·  Experience of the entire SDLC from ideation to delivery
·  Some experience with continuous delivery tools (like Jenkins, Puppet, Chef)
·  Experience of Agile methodologies (like Scrum)
·  Linting (like JSLint)
·  Code Quality tools (like SonarQube)
·  Performance testing (like LoadImpact)
·  Web testing (like Selenium WebDriver)
·  Javascript testing (like Mocha/Chai)
·  Mobile device testing (like Xamarin Test Cloud)

Qualifications
·  ISTQB certification or equivalent
·  At least one large project as test lead / manager
