Job Summary :

3M Corporate Engineering is seeking a Resident Project Engineer for Chemical Processes Group Division Engineering supporting the Film Material Resources Business Group located in Cottage Grove, MN.  This position will lead capital projects from start to finish at 3M Cottage Grove.

The position requires the ability to work with 3M partners to define capital projects based on business needs and strategic goals; direct cross functional teams to execute assigned projects; plus, periodically communicate status to team members, clients, and management personnel. The job often involves the ability to discover and solve problems in manufacturing processes and operations. This position will lead project teams consisting of process engineers, designers, and contractors to build and install new manufacturing solutions to industrial processes.

Project types include: Chemical processing equipment, incinerator and wastewater process improvements. Renewal of process equipment, roads, buildings, and utilities.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.     

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

·  Lead teams and use engineering skills to develop project proposals to specify, build or procure and install new equipment into plant sites as well as upgrade existing equipment and building facilities.
·  Create, review and analyze alternatives for written scope and design specifications.  Develop time lines with suppliers and project teams, estimate capital equipment and installation costs and monitor spending for cost control purposes.
·  Create funding proposals, manage capital budgets and project schedules and deliver these presentations to business management.
·  Applicant must work well in team environment, and enjoy verbal and written communications. 
·  Applicant must be committed to follow 3M's corporate business conduct, safety, health, and environmental policies, to protect 3M intellectual property and to drive maintenance conscious engineering efforts during the duration of the project.
·  Job primarily involves non-confined position (free to move about) with some standing or walking.  Ability to climb ladders will be needed to supervise equipment start up and to supervise the work start up contractors are performing.
·  This position involves providing technical assistance and guidance to other employees.
·  Ability to travel occasionally is required, no language requirements other than English.

Basic Qualifications:

·  Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
·  Minimum of two (2) years of combined experience in Capital equipment and/or Facilities project management in a private, public, government or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:

·  Current employees of 3M Corporate Engineering
·  Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited program
·  Experience in chemical processing equipment installation and start-up, plant operations knowledge/experience.
·  Skills include presentations skills and ability to communicate effectively via written project proposals.

Location: Cottage Grove, MN

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic and/or international

Relocation: Is authorized
