Job Summary :
The person hired for the position of Advanced Environmental Engineer perform and guide environmental activities at 3M’s Research & Development community. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of environmental engineering, well-developed written and oral communications skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances. This position has high technical learning potential in an energized team environment.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Assessing new and changing processes, equipment, and chemistries.
· Actively applying engineering/scientific knowledge to EHS regulatory interpretation.
· Interpreting and rationalizing state, federal and local environmental standards for applicability and implementation at the site.
· Completing and submitting applicable permits and reports.
· Leading environmental projects.
· Interacting with internal auditors and regulatory agencies.
· Providing on-call coverage for spills, releases and other emergency situations.
· Developing training content.
· Presenting results and providing guidance to several layers of 3M management and employees
· Identifying and recommending actions to minimize the risk of incidents.
· Leading incident investigations to determine causal factors and identify associated plans to minimize recurrence.
· Participating or leading initiatives aimed at enhancing EHS culture, behaviors, and accountability within all levels of the workforce.
· Leading EHS inspections, routine and non-routine internal and external compliance/conformance reports and data analysis.
· Leading EHS programs, elements, and associated control plans to maintain compliance.
Basic Qualifications:
· Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
· Minimum three (3) years of combined experience working in an Environmental and/or Environmental Engineering position in a private, public, government or military environment
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Biology or related discipline from an accredited institution
· Minimum five (5) years of experience working in an Environmental and/or Environmental Engineering position in a private, public, government or military environment
· Experience working in a Research and Development (R&D) setting, including EHS responsibilities
· Strong project management skills and ability to set objectives and deliver results
· Strong communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
· Experience working on a cross functional team
· Microsoft Office proficient
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
Relocation: Is authorized
