This exciting role offers an opportunity to provide technical innovation within Siemens.

Working as part of a close knit team the role will have an area of specialism and a wide knowledge of our industry especially in regards to hardware. You will work closely with the project team(s) to ensure the hardware requirements on the project are correctly captured and delivered, whilst also working with the various Centres of Competence, technology teams and subject matter experts across the wider Siemens business to develop solutions that meet these needs and then with bid teams to develop proposals that deliver commercially viable, highly customer focused bids.

This isa key role within the project environment, with involvement in a wide range of project activities throughout the whole project lifecycle. This role provides the opportunity to travel both in the UK and overseas, ensuring an international flavour to your knowledge base and, over time, establish a rounded career in a global railway industry.

What are my responsibilities?

· Capable of initiating and managing detailed hardware related analysis of extensive, multi-layered systems
· Will work closely with colleagues in the Bids & Tendering team, the engineering team members in Germany, project groups, the Lines of Business and heads of technology throughout Siemens, to ensure that the project hardware meets our customers’ needs now, and in the future
· Will work closely with the installation design teams to ensure all project hardware mechanical/electrical interfaces and any installation constraints are documented and implemented accordingly
· Performs evaluation of Engineering issues and constraints, defining cross Engineering, and Sub-contract support needed to provide solutions to these major Engineering challenges
· Ability to follow the hardware processes and procedures to facilitate solutions that meet the project requirements
· Provide key input and ideas to help determine the most appropriate technical, product and commercial solutions within the given geographical and technical environment
· Ensure innovation and value engineering is applied to all proposals
· A key player within the project organisation
· Alongside the hardware manager will be responsible for hardware strategy across the whole lifecycle from tendering through into project delivery

What do I need to qualify for this job?

· Knowledge and/or experience, specifically the application design of standard hardware in an on-train environment and documentation of the application design for train carried systems, in particular train control systems & in-cab signalling systems (ETCS / CBTC) (essential)
· Ability to understand and capture hardware requirements (specifications, scenarios, rules, etc.) relating to the subsystem (essential)
· Create and maintain the specification / documentation of the hardware user requirements with the objective of defining favorable solutions (essential)
· Create and maintain the specification of hardware requirements with regard to important system aspects, e.g. system limits and performance, safety objectives, operability, maintainability and training (essential)
· Create and maintain the specification of hardware requirements for both mechanical and electrical interfaces including any installation constraints (essential)
· Assist the Hardware Manager with the management of the requirements for the hardware from the user requirements (essential)
· Assist the Hardware Manager with the creation and ongoing updates to the definition of the hardware architecture as part of the overall system architecture (essential)
· Ability to undertake diagnosis and fault finding of complex safety related and safety critical control systems (essential)
· Read and review requirements, creating written comments and attending reviews as required (essential)
· Review engineering data for completeness and consistency (essential)
· Review product installation designs to ensure adherence to guidelines and installation constraints (essential)
· Assist with the system and integration testing especially within the hardware areas (essential)
· Previous experience in Hardware / Systems Engineering, Project Engineering and Design of safety critical or safety related real-time systems, test and installation environments (essential)
· Previous experience in environmental design and testing/modelling (essential)
· Previous experience in application designs for maintenance (essential)
· Previous experience in liaising with subcontractors throughout the whole project lifecycle (essential)
· Must be willing to fill gaps in own knowledge and experience through taking a pro-active approach to learning, and seeking information from within and outside the company (essential)
