Design Engineer

We currently have multiple vacancies for Trainee Design Engineers at our site in Telford working in the In Service Support (ISS) team.

As a Trainee Design Engineer, you will be working on a variety of tasks designing all aspects of MoD Land wheeled and tracked vehicles including heavy structural design, concept design and manufacturing design.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to begin your career in design engineering and gain first-hand experience across a number of high-profile military platforms. You will be fully supported in your professional development, with the opportunity to grow and develop your skills within an exciting area of engineering.

Your main responsibilities as a Design Engineer will involve:

Assisting colleagues as they undertake system design and integration into vehicle platforms using appropriate CAD tools

Helping to produce technical reports

Learning how to schedule your own work to meet target timescales and budget demands

Building on your skills and learning how to conduct calculations and stress analysis, as required, and learning how to justify a proposed course of action

Learning how to manage customer requirements and how to produce technical reports and product specifications

Working closely alongside peers as they investigate and resolve customer's technical queries

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential


Experience of 3D modelling – ideally CREO or Unigraphics NX

Experience with drafting

Knowledge of configuration control

Desirable

Data Management using ‘Team Centre' software

Experience within heavy automotive industry – track vehicles, JCBs, tractors etc.

Degree qualified within mechanical engineering or product design or equivalent experience

You will be a good team player and be able to work closely within a team in a fast paced environment. You will be organised and self-motivated, with the ability to use your initiative. You will also be a great problem solver with a keen eye for detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to deal with internal and external customers effectively.

Location: Telford

Salary: £28,000 +
