Experiences

Owner And Ground Instructor

02-2013 - NowEnergy / Materials / MechanicsTeach FAA Ground School Course for Private Pilot training. Improved leadership skills through running my own business and dealing with prospective clients and customers.

Professor

08-2012 - NowDesign / Civil engineering / Industrial engineeringResearch: Autonomous flight controller development using MATLAB/Simulink. - Specialize in simulation and control systems design for fixed-wing UAVs. - Worked with the Mexican Air Force to conduct an aerodynamic analysis of the Hermes 450 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This required modifying a CAD model and adapting it for ANSYS Fluent analysis. Analysis was conducted by my student under my supervision. Learnt about 3D model compatibility and modifications required to conduct CFD testing. - Designed, programmed, tested and put into operation a new web-based employee attendance tracking system. Improved PHP and MySQL programming skills. Teaching: Control Systems, Flight Dynamics, and Flight Mechanics courses. - Responsible for planning of classes, coursework, labs and exams. - Plan and lead class projects, where students design, built and test fully autonomous UAVs. Currently working on multiple UAV projects for surveillance and agricultural purposes. - Planned, lead and supervised a class project, where students designed a VTOL aircraft using SolidWorks for the American Helicopter Society Student Design Competition.

Graduate Research Assistant

08-2010 - 05-2012 Energy / Materials / MechanicsResearch: UAV Simulation Environment for Autonomous Flight Control Algorithms - Developed and tested flight control systems and path planning algorithms for U.S. Army’s OX, TigerShark, and Pioneer UAVs. Improved MATLAB/Simulink programming skills. - Focused on fault detection, identification and evaluation (fault tolerant design & flight envelope estimation). Paper presented at the 2011 AIAA MST Conference in Portland, OR
