Summary

I am a highly organised and efficient individual, whose thorough and precise approach to PhD project has yielded excellent results as I have shown that chromosome X has been seen in the nuclear interior first time in our laboratory and I employed a novel drug to shorten telomere length which has been used as a cancer treatment previously to inhibit the catalytic component hTERT. My ultimate career goal is to assume responsibility for the scientific research and actively contribute to the overall success of any research scientist position I work for.

PhD project title - “Using drug treatments to control genome behaviour in normal and Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) fibroblasts with and without hTERT immortalization”. Techniques employed: Cell culture (mammalian and bacterial), drug treatments, immunofluorescence, fluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, DNA damage analysis, Western Blotting, isolation of RNA/DNA, agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, cloning, 2D-Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH), Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), Interphase Quantitative-FISH, comet assay. Maintained the lab successfully so that reagents were ordered as required.

In my masters’ project, we used a synthetic recombinant antibody B72.3 to detect a human tumour associated glucoprotein-72. Escherichia coli, the gram-negative bacterium offers rapid and high density of recombinant proteins. We described the facile generation of a stable recombinant antibody with intrinsic red fluorescent properties for qualitative and potentially quantitative immunofluorescence analysis.
