Legal Visits/Detention Custody Officer
08-2006 - 09-2009 Administration I was a member of a team responsible for the daily running of the visits department. I liaised and organised visits sessions for solicitors, external doctors, social workers, the police, the prison and probation ombudsman and various other external organisations to see their clients in line with the provisions of the Detention Centre rules pertaining to the rights of detainees. I was responsible the setting up and supervision of video link bail hearings for detainees; I also supervised family visits.
Before this, from April 2003 and February 2006, I was a Detention Custody Officer/Manager at Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre, which is the other detention facility in this complex. There I was responsible for the daily running of a wing containing between 90 and 136 detainees. My main duties were the supervision of officers and detainees allocated to my wing; I also had line management responsibility for seven officers; these included but, not limited to problem-solving, disciplinary and manpower development issues
