Summary

I am a recent graduate from University of California, Berkeley, College of Engineering, and am currently doing a master's program in Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, in Germany. I have interests in both air and water quality. Personally, I love running and adventuring outdoors, which is the main reason why I chose environmental engineering as a major. I want to prevent pollutants from contaminating the air and water from which we live and breathe, improving upon the life and health of the general public.

Experiences

Research Assistant

11-2015 - Now• Used R to flag and graph data on formaldehyde levels at the highest peak in Germany • Will analyze results to compare meteorological data with formaldehyde production

Engineering Student Assistant

05-2014 - 08-2015 • Inspected large water systems and treatment plants to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations • Conducted well soundings for 20+ water systems to analyze the drought’s influence on static water levels • Conducted field work and lab tests on chemical, E. coli., and cyanobacteria levels on 20+ public water systems • Reviewed lead and copper reports, and 500+ annual, monthly, and consumer confidence reports

Education & training

Technische Universität München (Tum)

2015 - 2017 Munich, Germany, MunichEnvironment, Design / Civil engineering / Industrial engineeringWater Management at the Catchment Scale, Research Project: This project was performed in collaboration with the University of Trento's Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering within a larger, global project, Globaqua, which focuses on managing the effects of multiple stressors on aquatic ecosystems under water scarcity. Three group members and I focused on the influence of hydrological processes on biological water indicators. Together, we composed a 13 page report detailing how natural and anthropogenic hydrological disturbances affect freshwater fauna, including the statistical methods used to analyze biological water quality data. Following the report, we visited the Vermiglio River, part of the Adige River Basin, in the Italian province of Trentino. There, we gained hands-on experience in the field related to gathering physical water properties to measuring snow properties to sampling macrozoobenthos in the river. Additionally, we contributed to the identification of biological water indicators and to the analysis of DNA damage in the lab.

University of California, Berkeley

2012 - 2015 Berkeley, Alameda CountyWastewater Treatment Plant Design Project: As part of the course Environmental Engineering Design (CEE112) at UC Berkeley, four group members and I posed as environmental consultants to improve upon the existing wastewater treatment plant in the City of Ukiah, California. As project manager, I oversaw a group of 5 engineers. We evaluated the addition of an alternative treatment plant of separate nitrification in activated sludge, and designed a tertiary dual media filtration facility. The designs included detailed drawings and calculations of aeration tanks, clarifiers, clearwells, and a dual media filtration unit. Additionally, we produced two technical reports that conducted Life Cycle Assessments, provided cost analyses, and evaluated CEQA regulations.
