Experiences

Content Director Hits Radio

09-2017 - 11-2018 Journalism / PRContent Director of Hits Radio – through 2017 and into 2018 I worked designing and developing the concept for a new national Digital Radio station that was to become Hits Radio. I sourced talent negotiated with agents and built Hits Radio national brand from the in-depth research we carried out across the UK. It launched nationwide in June and was described by Bauer and the best launch of a station they’d ever done. It delivered over 800,000 listeners in its first RAJAR.

Content Director Key 103 and Bauer City Network

07-2015 - 09-2017 Journalism / PRI was brought in to turn the fortunes round of Key 103 and reinvent the station. I brought in major new talent, strengthened the stations relationship with the City, revamped the imagining and music taking the station back to number 1 in share ahead of the main commercial rivals. The content I delivered around the bombing of Manchester gave the station universal praise picking up 2 AIAR awards. During this period I worked on supporting several stations in the network to find new breakfast shows as well as running the network programming. All the network shows were all number 1 commercially in the markets they performed in.

Content Director North East, Magic Network and Head of Breakfast Development

09-2009 - 07-2015 Journalism / PRresponsible for the strategy for the radio station in the North East and the Classic Hits Network. I was operationally responsible for Metro Radio. I took the station back to Number 1 overall in the market, revolutionised the sound of Metro through hiring major breakfast show talent, and changing the music and production, making it a contemporary radio station grounded in the North East. This strategy saw Metro produce it’s best audience figures for a decade. I have won 17 major awards for the station including UK station of the year as well as being nominated and winning the UK Commercial programmer of the Year 4 years in a row. I devised the strategy of programming in the North East with the other programme directors as well as implementing the co- location of TFM and networking. I also developed and talent coached 17 Breakfast shows across the Bauer media portfolio in both the UK and Europe.
