Summary

I have always had an interest in the media and entertainment industry, which is why I studied Comparative Literature and Film Studies to become more knowledgable at a degree level. I worked both autonomously and within a team to produce assignments and short films, always looking to improve my skills and learn from others. Working at Marks and Spencer I had an invaluable insight into the retail industry, where I was able to showcase my strong interpersonal skills and exceed targets for the company. I am currently looking for the opportunity to gain new skills and develop in my career.

Experiences

Customer Assistant and Events Team Member

04-2017 - 07-2018 SalesI mainly worked in Womenswear, acting as the first point of contact within the store, meeting and greeting, being friendly, approachable and sparking up conversations with customers. I utilised my outgoing personality to communicate and assist customers, as well as help throughout the store by working on tills, organising and managing stock and maintaining the overall high store standards. I became skilled in problem solving and decision making as I was constantly dealing with customer queries and issues. I would do everything in my power to help the customer and use my initiative when a manager was not on the shop floor. I was also flexible in my role as I helped throughout sales and public holidays. Moreover, I became experienced in different departments, including the Beauty section, Foods and Visual Merchandising, adapting to the surroundings around me. As a member of the Making Every Moment Special (MEMS) Events Team, I helped to increase sales within the store via achieving targets and goals set alongside my department leads, I developed my teamwork skills as I worked within a team to promote the brand and organise events for M&S, such as in-store fashion shows, promote the M&S Sparks Card and online ordering as a new platform. I developed my confidence by successfully promoting and selling the latest offers and also volunteered to raise money for charities e.g. Macmillan Cancer Support. Furthermore, I became commercially aware with the retail industry as a business and M&S as a brand. I learnt to take on all kinds of feedback from managers and customers in store, endorsing M&S's key values and showing how M&S is improving, innovating and keeping customers at the heart of everything they do.

Runner

04-2011 - 04-2011 Audiovisual productionI was able to display my strong interpersonal skills as I was responsible for providing assistance and hospitality to clients. Time management is key in the film industry and I supported other runners on deadlines and helped to transport the company's work to and from different film production companies. Furthermore, I displayed my ability to work as part of a team in a pressurised environment and took advantage of a fantastic learning opportunity to explore the key roles of the company by interacting with different stakeholders.

Assistant Librarian
