Job description

Occupational Summary:

Provide support to leads and operators in the assembly and/or fabrication areas. Plan, structure and implement manufacturing programs.

Support manufacturing assembly and fabrication to trouble shoot both assembly and fabrication problems. Must support all lean manufacturing improvements and may require participation in lean improvement activities and process improvements. Must also work closely with Quality Assurance, Program Management, Engineering, to resolve quality issues, increase productivity, and eliminate ergonomic problems.

Duties and Responsibilities (essential functions):

· Provide support to leads and operators in the assembly and fabrication areas.
· Analyze parts and seat flow.
· Conduct time and motion studies and provide proposal improvement.
· Balance the lines or cells and implement procedures and/or operator instructions to support process improvement.
· Participate to the implementation of structure and plan manufacturing programs (Lean Manufacturing, Set-up Reduction, 6S, Cost Reduction).
· Apply statistical data analysis in normal duty activities.
· Measures, analyzes, and adjusts Factory Floor Layout to achieve optimum manufacturing productivity as directed by Lean Manufacturing practices, subject to managerial approval.
· Creates and documents Standard Work Instructions for use by factory personnel, in compliance with design and quality specifications and FAA directives.
· Participates in training shop personnel in new and/or updated processes, including Lean Manufacturing practices and improvement implementations.
· Previews engineering design packages for evaluation of manufacturability prior to production. Determines optimal methods and processes for manufacturing designated products. Communicates with Engineering to discuss any suggested changes. Suggests alternative materials, methods, or design improvements when appropriate. Can include “Make or Buy” decisions.
· Communicates design improvement ideas to engineering.
· Investigates serious or recurrent production difficulties and delays due to such factors as faulty methods, tooling, operational sequences, or inadequate facilities or layouts.
· Frequently contacts supervisory and non-supervisory personnel in engineering, production planning, tool design and other departments for the purpose of discussing production problems in order to secure necessary information or consider factors which may interfere with the effectiveness of production. Takes preventive or corrective action to remedy the problem or refer it to others who may be more directly responsible.
· Develops new ideas and methods, and recommends changes in existing tooling to secure the most economical production. Submits cost reduction ideas.
· Continuously analyzes current processes, tooling and methods in the factory for labor and/or cost reduction opportunities. Documents such opportunities and submits suggestions for managerial approval. Implements all approved suggestions. Investigates new manufacturing processes and plans implementation, including acquisition of new equipment and/or facilities.
· Completes all assignments aimed at determining optimal methods and processes for manufacturing designated company products.
· Establishes interface activities with all internal departments and outside vendors.
· Cooperates with Safety and Health personnel to optimize factory safety conditions, and with Energy personnel to monitor and optimize energy and fuel usage within the facility.
· Makes regular oral and written reports and/or presentations to supervisory and managerial personnel on any of the above activities.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements :

Knowledge and Skills:

· Requires sufficient training to permit ready comprehension of problems having to do with production methods and facilities.
· Must be capable of preparing well-written and orderly reports.
· Must have sufficient knowledge of manufacturing and related operations with detailed knowledge of such fields as product design, engineering function, tool design, tool fabrication, space layout, handling equipment, production machinery and equipment, N/C machinery and equipment, factory methods work, etc.
· Must have basic knowledge of trigonometry, algebra and statistics.
· Must be proficient in inventory management, product data management, monitoring production control and cost, and in manufacturing resource planning.
· PC skills, knowledge of all Microsoft software.
· Basic knowledge of motion and time study principles.
· Must be able to read and interpret engineering design blueprints, facility lay-out or floor plan blueprints, and/or such drawings, diagrams, and photographs as required by all of the above functions.
· A documented history of supporting manufacturing fabrication and assembly departments in identifying and resolving production problems and issues.
· Demonstrates the ability to facilitate continuous improvement in the production process.
· Must be experienced in interacting closely with personnel at all levels of the manufacturing system, including supervision and management.
· Must be able to assume a leadership position in regard to Lean Manufacturing improvement projects, and exhibit a record of actively supporting past projects.
· Must be capable of interacting regularly and cooperatively with Quality Assurance, Program Management, Engineering, and Production Management to resolve quality, productivity, ergonomic and safety issues.
· Must be capable of initiating improvement projects resulting in labor, material, space, manpower, and/or other measurable cost reductions.
· Must have a working knowledge of current “6S” factory practices
· Should be familiar with company policies regarding worker safety and have demonstrated the ability to identify and resolve safety issues in the workplace.
· Knowledgeable of Life Safety Code as it applies to manufacturing layouts.
· Must have demonstrated above average capability for developing engineering analysis
· Must have knowledge of basic material handling principles and products.

Education and Experience:

· B.S. degree in a related technical field (e.g.: IE, ME, EE);
· Associate degree (in related field) with 3 years related experience; or
· Six (6) years of job related experience.
· 2-4 years’ experience required.
· State registered professional engineering license in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
