We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team and play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend services. In this role, you will work with modern technologies, contribute to architectural decisions, and help drive engineering excellence across the team. About the Product 

Product Individual & Insight (PI) is Volvo’s digital product that provides a single, trusted view of machine‑level information, supporting operational, analytical, and strategic decision‑making across the business. We are building PI as a scalable and extensible product, continuously evolving through MVP iterations and supported by modern data processing and validation frameworks. 

What you’ll do 

·  Develop clean, efficient, high‑quality backend code in Node.js and TypeScript, ensuring it meets functional and non‑functional requirements.
·  Design and build APIs, following best practices for versioning, validation, and error handling.
·  Work with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, performance optimization, and migrations.
·  Deploy and operate services in the cloud, preferably Microsoft Azure, including CI/CD pipelines and secure configuration management.
·  Write and maintain automated tests to ensure stability, quality, and reliability.
·  Debug and troubleshoot complex issues in a distributed environment, ensuring performant and resilient services.
·  Contribute to code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and help raise the overall engineering bar.
·  Maintain clear documentation for code, processes, and architectural decisions.
·  Collaborate closely with other developers, product owners, and stakeholders to plan and deliver new features.
·  Continuously improve existing code, architecture, and development practices.
·  Champion security and compliance, ensuring safe handling of data and adherence to internal policies. 

 

What you bring 

 

Must‑have experience 

·  Deep proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript.
·  Professional experience with Nest.js or Express.js.
·  Strong skills in SQL, ideally PostgreSQL.
·  Experience deploying and operating backend services on Azure or another major cloud platform.
·  Understanding of backend architecture patterns (modular design, service/repository layers, API contracts).
·  Ability to work independently, solve problems proactively, and take ownership of tasks.
·  Strong collaboration and communication skills.
·  Curiosity, adaptability, and a positive, team‑oriented mindset. 

Nice to have 

·  Experience with React.
·  Familiarity with GraphQL.
·  Experience with NoSQL databases, e.g., CosmosDB.
·  Knowledge of Grafana or similar observability tools.
·  Understanding of distributed tracing, metrics, and log correlation.
