Veolia East Kent RDF is based in the small Village of Hersden near Canterbury with good public transport links from Canterbury of Margate/Ramsgate, we operate a 10 hour shift where the Commercial Department and Municipal Department will dispose of their waste in Hersden upto and Maximum of 40,000 tonnes per year. Here we will shred, bale and wrap the waste ready for export to the Netherlands where the product is burnt for energy. The team at Hersden is a small team and we all have a very good working relationship, also on a personal note “I am proud of my staff and the success of this depot is down to the team work and not an individual” We do all go out for a meal once a quarter which builds the morale.
The Process of shredding waste is not like working in a perfume factory and the conditions can be warm in the summer, we have installed an air exchange unit the exchanges the air inside the building 3 to 4 time per hour. We have installed a washing machine and a dryer for the staff to clean their uniforms each night.
