Position is based in Tyseley Energy Recovery Facility (ERF), Birmingham

Closing date 21st August 2018

Hours: Rotating - 20 weeks Monday to Friday based on 40 hours, followed by 20 weeks based on 5 week shift cycle days and nights, 12 hour shifts.

Salary: £27,063.92

Job Purpose: To assist in the day to day operation of the Energy Recovery Facility, Clinical Transfer Station and Hazardous Waste Incinerator operations.

Responsibilities include:

To assist with the safe and efficient operation of the ERF and Clinical plant and upgrade to Plant

Operator or Clinical Operative duties as required.

Operation of the refuse and ash cranes.

To carry out waste unloading duties in Clinical Transfer station.

Carrying out acceptance checks of waste upon its arrival at the plant, accurate checking and completion of paperwork and ensuring correct disposal routes for waste.

Operation of FLT's, including vehicles with attachments, to load 5m3 boxes onto hoists, empty bins into 5m3 boxes, off-loading palletised waste, exchanging ash skips and moving waste containers.

Manually moving pallets and bins as required ensuring a constant availability of waste.

Weighing bins, loading them into the Clinical Waste Incinerator, transferring to bin wash and removing washed bins to storage.

Assessment of bin contents and transfer of waste from pallet to bin in order to maintain a suitable and efficient waste throughput.

Operation of wheeled bucket loader to manage waste reception area and maintain a high level of cleanliness in the working areas.

To assist with maintenance activities as required.

Seeked profile

Qualifications :


Previous maintenance / engineering experience is essential.

PC literate, learning how to use new software systems.

Recognised craft training and qualifications in an appropriate engineering discipline would be advantageous

Full clean UK driving license.

Current forklift truck and counterbalance driving qualification or equivalent desirable.

Knowledge of current H&S Legislation, experience of waste incineration or clinical waste is desirable.
