Veolia Energy has entered a long-term O&M Services Agreement with Georgia Renewable Power overseeing operations of two 65 MW biomass-fueled power plants in north Georgia.
Summary: The Instrumentation & Controls Electrician (ICE) will report to the Maintenance Manager but will work under the primary direction of the Lead ICE Technician. This position will perform scheduled, unscheduled, and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned by the Lead ICE Technical. The ICE technician will support the electrical and instrumentation maintenance requirements of the facility. This includes all fuel handling and drying equipment as well as all power generating systems, equipment and controls. Duties will include the inspection, troubleshooting and repair of motor control circuits and other equipment including VFD's, motors, electrical breakers and switching equipment. Performing written job plans for electrical and
instrumentation projects as well as assisting in the development of written procedures for instrumentation and electrical equipment maintenance and inspections. The I&C Technician will perform skilled work requiring a high degree of precision and understanding of technical data and systems. The I&C Electrician often works alone and must be aware of circumstances that can contribute to the injury of personnel and must follow all site related safety and LOTO procedures.
Scope & Responsibilities:
· Work under minimal supervision to repair, service, and maintain electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment throughout the plant.
· Repair and maintain electrical generation equipment and supporting equipment, fuel handling and fuel drying equipment as well as DCS and PLC controls, etc. throughout the plant.
· Repair and maintain switchgear components, motor control centers and all related wiring. Troubleshoot electronic variable speed pumps drive systems and prime power machinery control and alarm systems. Maintains and perform proper documentation on stack CEMS equipment. Repair and installation of general plant wiring and electrical systems.
· Perform maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of field instrumentation devices for process equipment including but not necessarily limited to the following:
· Flow devices
· Pressure devices
· Temperature devices
· Direct and inferential level measurement devices
· Analytical equipment and instrumentation
· Scale equipment
· Instruct others assigned to assist in this work; supervise the repair tasks to insure they are being performed in a safe manner
· Fully Support Plant Operations to minimize production impacts and enhance reliability.
· Interpret and troubleshoot PLC and DCS logic including ladder logic, function block, and structured text routines.
· Apply knowledge of electrical engineering and electronic theory, use of Amprobes, test meters, low and high voltage meter, oscilloscope and other electronic test equipment
· Required to work both scheduled and unscheduled overtime to support plant activities
· Maintain facility documentation (P&ID, loop sheets, spec sheets, etc.) for approved changes
· Visually inspect and makes rounds on equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
· During outages and emergency events, will be assigned responsibilities outside of normal work duties and at hours outside of normal work day.
· Continually maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism while working as a member of a team or when working alone.
Ideal candidate profile
Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
· High school diploma or GED equivalent plus Associate Degree in I&E or Electrical or equivalent experience.
· 5 years' progressive experience in industrial electrical or I&C maintenance work performing maintenance and repair in power generation or other process plants and equivalent training.
· Ability to obtain a conceptual understanding of plant systems.
· Comprehension of electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
· Comprehensive understanding of electrical system and motor control centers
· Working knowledge of plant boilers and, auxiliary/balance of plant equipment,
· Ability to obtain comprehensive knowledge of plant PLC, DCS, etc.
· Working knowledge of high voltage switchgear and switchyard equipment operation and maintenance.
· Working knowledge of cable pulling techniques, conduit installation practices, and cable termination methods.
· Ability to properly and accurately communicate both in person and over a radio or P.A. system.
· Ability to obtain comprehensive knowledge of plant LOTO procedures
· Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test
· Ability to work at times in cramped work spaces or awkward positions and to perform manual tasks.
· Ability to work indoors or outdoors in hot, cold and sometimes wet or icy environments
· Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication
· Ability to lift heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs with the capacity of lifting 50 pounds
· Must hold a valid driver license with a satisfactory driving record to maintain minimum company required insurance coverage
Note: The job can be physically demanding involving movement of heavy equipment and carrying materials up and down stairs. Candidates should be able to lift and maneuver a 50-lb load.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
· Technical or trade school degree in electronics or equivalent industry training and experience
· Distributed Control System trade school, specifically any training related to the Siemens SPPA-T3000 Control System
· METSO experience
· Vibration controls schools and/or experience
· Programmable Logic Controls (Ladder Logic) schools and/or experience.
