Job description

Job Title - Energy Recovery Facility Apprenticeship (Engineering)

Level - Level 3 Apprenticeship

Location - Battlefield ERF, Vanguard Way, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY1 3TG

Hours - 24/7 operation, rotating shifts

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Energy Recovery Facility Apprenticeship (Engineering)

An Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) converts residual waste that can't be reused, recycled or composted into energy. This energy is used to provide electricity.

Battlefield ERF uses approximately 90,000 tonnes of residual waste unsuitable for recycling and composting to make heat and power. Waste from your residual waste bin, instead of being sent to a landfill site, is delivered to the facility where it is converted to heat, under controlled conditions, and this is used to generate electricity. The site produces enough power for around 10,000 homes in the local area.

What you'll do

The ERF Apprenticeship offers suitably motivated individuals the opportunity to complete an Engineering Apprenticeship through workshop and classroom-based activity whilst at the same time, developing the necessary skills, experience and knowledge within the workplace to potentially progress to a senior engineering or management post within Veolia.

Flexibility is key to the ERF Apprenticeship role as the ERFs run 24/7 so an element of shift work will be required in order to gain exposure to all the roles on the plant. Secondments to other ERFs will be a necessity to broaden the experience so the ability to travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities

The role of an ERF Apprentice at Veolia is a varied and challenging role, you will be exposed to all aspects of the process from plant operating techniques to preventative maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs. Continuous advancements in technology mean you will be involved in various plant efficiency improvements which will require you to develop new skills and integrate new equipment on site. State of the art technologies and challenging targets ensures no two days are the same for an Engineer in our ERFs.

Development included

A 4-year program in which you will achieve a Level 3 BTEC, Level 3 NVQ, IOSH Managing Safely, Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician.

Training will consist of a combination of residential block release at the Uniper Engineering Academy at Ratcliffe-on-Soar (our partner training provider), attendance at college, and also on the job training at Veolia Battlefield ERF.
