Where you’ll work
We have a great opportunity for a EC&I Technician to join the team at the Recycling and Energy Recovery Facility (RERF) in Leeds. The RERF is an innovative design focussed on removing recyclable waste (through an automated mechanical pre-treatment process) from primarily municipal residual waste and recovering energy from the remaining element; enough to power in excess of 20,000 homes annually.
Our Energy Recovery Facilities utilise world-class technology to safely transform residual waste into energy for the National Grid. We generate enough energy to power over 189,000 homes annually.
Energy Recovery makes an important contribution to reducing the UK’s long-term energy gap and helps to increase landfill diversion as part of an integrated waste management strategy.
Our ERFs operate within the emissions limits of the Waste Incineration Directive and have been recognised by all the relevant agencies as a safe, efficient method of treating waste streams that cannot be recycled.
What you’ll do
As the EC & I Technician you will assist in the effective management of the site maintenance through; managing suppliers and executing maintenance tasks on the Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) and Mechanical pretreatment MPT) , involving calibration, fault finding, installation and routine maintenance of all control & instrumentation equipment and associated systems inclusive of a site wide DCS system.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform and document maintenance, calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of control systems including extensive DCS systems.
Work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, level, flow, pressure transmitters, proximity sensors, thermocouples, RTDs, etc.
Maintain files, logs and drawings for all control, instrumentation and electrical equipment using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Understand piping and instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), signal loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, etc.
To propose and develop modifications and improvements to plant /apparatus as appropriate.
Liaise with and oversee suppliers/contractors carrying out EC&I tasks/projects to ensure compliance with company procedures.
Ensure compliance with the company’s Quality and Environmental Management System and Health and Safety Policies - ISO EN9001, EN14001, EN18001.
Assist the maintenance/operation team to achieve collective objectives and goals.
On the job training of Apprentices where appropriate/applicable.
Ensure good housekeeping at all times, maintain the workshop and other work areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
Complete other tasks/duties within the scope and spirit of the job as instructed by management.
Perform all duties in manner consistent with environmental, health and safety and company policies.
Organising and controlling contractors, Reviewing and writing RAMs
The EC&I role will also involve some mechanical work, loler etc.
Experience you will need
To enable you to carry out this role you must have a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship and be qualified to at least ONC, or equivalent, in a relevant Engineering discipline. You should have detailed knowledge of all aspects of maintenance techniques associated with control systems. Excellent understanding of, and ability to, interface with PLC & SCADA/DCS architecture to basic programming level. Siemens and Metso experience is an advantage.
You should have an appropriate level of experience gained in a continuous process industry. Experience in Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and environmental legislation.
Some manual handling necessary, working in confined spaces and working at height experience is required. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills with internal staff (at all levels) and external suppliers/contractors.
You will be required to work in an environment that includes some weekend working/overtime to give overall maintenance cover 365 days per year and should be able to be contacted, and attend site, outside of normal hours if required.
Computer literate and ability to train in Computerised Maintenance Management System, company specific programs and SAP is a requirement with the ability to contribute as an effective team member and self-motivated to work with minimum supervision.
Experience of High Voltage Apparatus, IOSH management or NEBOSH certification, 17th Edition.
