Location - Chilton Power Station, County Durham, DL17 0PB
Hours - Full time, 12hour shift rota 4 on 4 off followed by 10 days off
What you'll do
As the DCS Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the 17.45 MWe steam turbine unit, the Boiler Plant and all the auxiliary and ancillary plant used to support the burning of waste wood fuel and production of power. This is vital to the successful operation of this facility.
Making informed decisions regarding plant performance ensuring strict adherence to the Environmental Permit and boiler/turbine parameters
Assisting in the development of procedures
Assisting with risk assessment review and development
Monitoring traffic control on-site using the CCTV system
Optimisation of plant performance
Controlling and monitoring of plant consumables
Ensuring wood fuel stocks are controlled
Arranging ash removals
Arranging Urea and lime deliveries
Environmental reporting of incidents to the shift team leaders
Ideal candidate profile
The experience you will need
Previous operational experience of boiler/turbine systems
Knowledge of waste handling systems and associated equipment
Previous experience working in a control room environment
Sound knowledge of the balance of plant equipment associated with steam/electrical generation
Excellent health and safety record
Served an apprenticeship in operation of boiler steam systems
Completed a training course on the principles, design and operation of plant systems and equipment used for energy conversion and production

Where you'll work
You will be based in the main plant control room, responsible for the day to day operation of the 54mw thermal water tube boiler and 17.45mwe turbine generator. The shift consists of a team of 3 working a continental shift pattern with 10-day breaks and an 18 day break each summer.
