What you'll do
As the Communications, Education & Outreach Officer you will engage with residents and community groups to promote effective recycling and responsible environmental behaviours, and increase the environmental quality of the borough. You will work as part of a project team to develop and deliver the annual communications action plan and contribute to the achievement of recycling and communications targets.
You will work with the Communications, Education and Outreach Team Leader and Manager to develop and deliver projects set out in the Action Plan. You will deliver face-to-face community engagement activities to encourage residents and other key stakeholders (such as council staff, businesses and caretakers) to improve recycling rates and promote responsible environmental behaviours. This could include identifying target groups and developing appropriate strategies to deliver key messages, developing and delivering community events, and door-knocking target areas.

Working as part of a team you will help run a diverse range of projects that seek to address the full spectrum of local environmental issues.

Skills & Qualifications required for the role
To enable you to carry out this role you will be educated to Degree level or demonstrate equivalent competence, ideally holding an environmental qualification and a full UK driving licence. You will preferably have relevant work experience in the waste or public services sector, and be comfortable presenting to large audiences.
You will ideally have knowledge of the recycling sector or local authorities, experience of working with the community and organising events, knowledge of health and safety and risk assessments.
You will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, planning and organising skills and the ability to multitask. You will be computer literate with strong MS Office or Google Suite skills. You will be able to work unsupervised when necessary but will also be happy cooperating and collaborating with colleagues.
