Engineer Apprentice

Position based in Dagenham RM9 6LF

Apprenticeship – Maintenance, Operations and Engineering Technician

About the role

The MRF (Materials Recycling Facility) and PRF (Plastics Recycling Facility) (Rainham) sort and recover post-consumer waste such as glass, metals and several plastic polymer including HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) The Veolia Plastics facility (Dagenham) reprocess natural HDPE from the PRF. The bottles are turned into flakes and then into pallet, ready to be used by the food- grade bottle manufacturer. These 3 facilities use advance technology and manual labour to provide high recycling

results. They are an essential part of the Veolia Circular Economy.

Key responsibilities

·
Analyse current operation practices and identify cost savings to reduce operational costs and improve process performances.

·
Assist site management during the design and delivery stages of upgrades.

·
Assist the maintenance team in planning work and plant services.

·
Support the team in reducing spillages, and thus reducing hazards and manual handling activities.

·
Help the supervisors and the maintenance team to learn from their successes and implement best practices across the shifts.

·
Organise staff engagement meeting to promote Safety culture and raise staff awareness

·
Work on optimising the daily capture of Key Performance Indicators. Ensure they are communicated to the production team and that any discrepancies are addressed and investigated.

·
Develop project management skills by leading the staff welfare facility improvement project.

·
Review systems

·
Support the team in the delivery of the continuous improvement plans.

·
Help the management team at identifying process improvements to reduce operational costs and/or maximise revenues.

·
Promote Health and Safety culture.

·
Bring a fresh pair of eyes to help identifying better work practices.

·
Provide the business with better visibility on process performances of the plant (accurate and live information)

As well as being willing to push production boundaries and having a strong focus on quality and safety, the successful applicant will also possess.

GCSE Maths and English ‘C' or above

· 
A ‘can do' attitude and be a self-starter;

Quality performance in current/ previous role;

Ability to work as part of a team;
