Job description

Location: Trafford Park, Manchester
Hours: Full time Monday – Friday with flexibility around core hours
Salary: £34,133 - £37,424 DOE, plus flexibility allowance of £4,728

Here at Unilever's Trafford Park factory, we process and box tea (A LOT of tea – 6 million tonnes a week in fact). Each one of our 25 machines are making roughly 2000 bags of tea a minute and to support this massive operation is a team of around 170 people - about 35 of which are in the Engineering team.

We're looking for an Engineering Skills Trainer to join this team who will inspire and lead all technical training for the factory's apprentices and technicians.

As a successful Engineering Skills Trainer here at Unilever, you will join us bringing your strong engineering experience from your previous maintenance and engineering roles, ideally gained in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What will you be doing on a day to day basis?

· Being a real hands on support for technicians on the manufacturing lines, mentoring and demonstrating in core mechanical, electrical and automation engineering
· Managing the team of 5 factory apprentices on a day to day basis, liaising with college tutors throughout their apprenticeship
· Coordinating and delivering a variety of in house training, as well as liaising with external providers when required
· Offering advice, guidance and support on the proper maintenance and safe running of machinery
· Conducting technical assessments and audits of the teams' skills, using gap analysis and wider coaching techniques
· Showcase problem solving techniques; identifying, prioritising and addressing problems, using the full range of World Class Manufacturing tools and techniques such as 5W1H and Kaizen methodology

What experience, skills and background do we ask for?

· Hands on experience in at least 2 of the 3 engineering disciplines at a national apprenticeship level (mechanical, electrical or control and automation)
· Experience of maintaining pneumatic, hydraulic and electromechanical components and using fault finding PLC software
· A qualification in coaching and / or mentoring would be preferable, however if you have experience in this area but no formal qualification, we would still really value this
· Experience in creating and delivering training, using IT and your strong analytical skills to ensure the training is relevant and engaging
· Involvement within a wider project management team, having used project management tools and techniques previously

We'd love to hear from you, so if you would like to hear more or understand anything further before applying, you can get in touch with Erin;
