Packaging technician

Works under the direction of the Manufacturing Supervisors for the Manufacturing Department. Responsible for all aspects of line operation including CIP, Change- Overs, Lubrication and Troubleshooting according to an established procedure, at a set pace while adhering to all safety regulations. Inspects product and completes required quality checks and necessary forms.
Il. Position Responsibilities (Expected Work)

Ensure compliance to all plant safety rules.
1. Operate machine(s), keeping watch for any malfunction. Is responsible for maintaining quality and quantity of product as set by Quality Assurance and packaging Production Standards.
2. Inspect product according to quality standards.
3. Check ingredient and total product weights and adjust the controls as required to ensure adherence to standards.
4. Troubleshoot production issues as required. For serious abnormalities liaise with maintenance or Supervisors to ensure timely resolution.
5. Manage changeovers as necessary, including work requiring use of basic hand tools.
6. Monitor points of lubrication throughout line and address issues as needed.
7. Maintain a high degree of personal hygiene and keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition in compliance with GMP Standards.
8. Perform SPC functions (weight/quality checks) as indicated on quality check sheets to ensure product is maintained within standards.
9. Ensure adequate material supply is on the line at all times (i.e. tubs, lids, foil, glue, etc.) and that all machines are properly loaded.
10. Clean case coder printing heads and replenish coder ink as required.
11. Change the case coder message during changeovers.
12. Clean and sanitize the line as needed and during changeovers.
13. Maintain close communication with other employees as required to ensure continuous operation of the line.
14. Complete all required documentation including but not limited to downtime reporting and entries in Informance.
15. Ensure that all machines safety guards are in place and operational.
16. Participate in all TPM training and apply this knowledge to the daily job duties and responsibilities.
17. Move packaging material as required using the walkie stacker.
18. Update all related Line KPI information and graphs as required.
19. Responsible for complying with existing company SHEQ Standards and requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Environmental Protection Act, The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Technical Standards and Services Act.
20. Support quality and food safety programs including HACCP and FSCC-22000.

Other on-going activities include leading 5s activities and helping push forward the overall TPM agenda. Working on focused improvements and being an active member of a cell team responsible for the overall safety, quality, waste and efficiency of a set of lines.

VII. Responsibilities with other Programs and/or Systems

-Attend, participate, and complete the required trainings for the programs implemented in the company
-Participate and / or support in the Internal and External Audits
-Periodically review the documents from my area to keep them updated
-Use or wear equipments and PPE's (personal protective equipment) required to conduct the task/ activity in a safe manner
-Be knowledgeable and comply with Unilever's rules and procedures as well as applicable standards and regulations
-Promptly report and correct, if possible, all unsafe acts and conditions
-Identify and report hazards
-Not use or operate any equipment, machine device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger -himself or others
-Not engage in any prank, contest, feat, strength, unnecessary running or rough and inappropriate conduct
-Promptly notify of any work-related injuries and doctors visits for work-related problems
-Assist fellow employees with understanding and following safe work practices and regulations
