Main Purpose of the Job:

The Marketing Legal Counsel will support the Unilever International (UI) business division in all aspects of legal advisory and business partnering.

UI is a global business of over 1 billion Euros per annum which sells and markets Unilever products in over 100 countries through distributors and customers.

From expanding global brands into white-space geographies or channels to extending of product category portfolios; from bringing local jewels to international consumers; reaching niche channels like vitamins & supplements, kosher outlets; and selling to Governments, Institutional customers, and NGOs, UI is present across the world. This brings unique challenges not faced in the usual course of FMCG business pertaining to intellectual property, regulatory issues, marketing issues, quality risks, and consumer cases on an international level which requires legal advice in a timely manner.

Main Accountabilities:

· Being the day-to-day legal point of contact for UI Marketing teams globally, in advising and coordinating with the IP team in London for UI trade mark issues, reviewing and overseeing SMC (external contracts management team) work for UI contracts, and other legal advice for UI
· Advising UI business on IP issues, day-to-day contracting, and other legal advice
· Advising UI business on marketing claims, working with RA, R&D and QA for all marketing issues
· Collaborating and working with central teams across functions (Category Legal, RA, R&D) for HC, BPC and F&R as well as the UI Legal network
· Advising UI business on privacy, data protection, competition, and consumer law issues
· Drafting and negotiating agreements and other legal documents to support UI businesses including but not limited to confidentiality agreements, vendor contracts, tender agreements, and service agreements
· Managing, creating, and collecting: knowledge, best practices, precedents, and know-how for UI Legal
· Identifying potential legal risks of business activities, and proactively taking steps to minimize legal exposure effectively through practical advice to the business
· Ensuring that the business complies with all internal policies, local regulatory and reporting requirements
· Keeping abreast of legal developments and advising the potential impact of these developments on the business
· Preparing material and conducting trainings for the business in, amongst others, Legal Induction, Business Integrity, Marketing & IP Laws, Privacy Laws and Competition Laws
· Business partnering communications with governments, key negotiations, litigation activity and major projects as directed by General Counsel, UI
· Business partner communications with external parties including consumers as and when required by the business

· Supporting the General Counsel UI in managing strategies and plans to support the business goals

Requirements:

Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and have prior legal experience for at least 3-5 years in a law firm or in-house.

Able to converse, write and draft with business fluency.
