Controls Engineer 1st shift 7am - 3:30pm

Job description

As the Automations Engineer you will be responsible for coordinating strategic direction for the facility in the area of plant automation and will be the primary person responsible for researching, planning, training and execution of activities related to plant automation. You will coach and mentor team members as well as provide technical support as required. As a member of the extended leadership team, you will be a key leader in driving overall plant performance. You will also own a part of the plant World Class Manufacturing (WCM) journey and delivery of the required programs.
Automation Duties
• Design and program controls engineering.
• Create ladder logic code, graphical interface development and integration of equipment into the controls logic.
• Support startup operations, testing and software documentation
• Providing Training for Maintenance and Technical Operations team
• Act as system owner of a large and complex automation system servicing an extensive automation system, managing the evolution of the system and its components throughout the system's life cycle.
• Responsible for day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting activities, verifying efficient operation of automation systems and related equipment as well as assisting Operations Managers with building functions.
• Act as system owner to manage and oversee all aspects of plant automation systems including administering system users and overseeing vendors with access to the various systems.
• Provide suggestions to optimize building system programs for efficiency, cost savings, and energy management.
• Create and implement a documentation program which includes formal change management, as-built drawing updates, network architecture, and sequences of operations. Define system boundaries and develop SOP's.
• Identify, recommend, and implement changes to automation systems to improve system capacity utilization and energy efficiency. Provide recommendations and suggest improvements to prevent deficient conditions.
• Oversee OEM vendor site visits and meet with teams to gather data to develop more efficient control strategies/sequences.
• Develop a critical spare parts inventory for the system and end devices.
• Perform thorough and detailed existing system re-commissioning throughout the plant as required, utilizing sound commissioning practices. Assist project managers and consultants in testing development, system retrofits and additions, and system operational review.
• Review system condition assessments and develop recommendations for system components. Oversee major maintenance projects for automation systems.
Projects
• Work closely with Project Engineers on EIM activities for innovation projects, line modifications and line additions.
• Serve as Project Engineer for blanket projects defined throughout the year in support of maintaining a reliable, cost effective factory; projects include equipment upgrades, rebuilds, replacements, program upgrades and new installations.
• Support both capital and in-plant project work.
• Participate in project design reviews and project commissioning planning as this relates to automation systems. Review, pre-approve and post-approve all commissioning documentation for system additions, modifications and retrofits. Where appropriate, perform system commissioning work.

WCM
• Serve as Effective Pillar Champion and support all other WCM Pillars as needed
• Work closely with production teams in maximizing the use of line downtime and coordination of scheduling maintenance personnel for all PM/AM activities.
• Coordinate mechanical or automation resources to support Production, Autonomous Maintenance, Quality, Early Equipment Management, Focused Improvement and Safety Activities.
• Identify continuous improvement and cost savings opportunities.
• Update PM and AM standards.
• Participate in the development of effective maintenance training programs for technicians and technical operators.
• Investigate and identify root causes of accidents, quality holds or environmental non-compliance utilizing the TPM RCA process in order to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.

• Ensure day-to-day compliance with local, state, federal laws or requirements.
• Abide by all plant Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) policies. Consistently demonstrate safe work behaviors and actively support company safety goals.
• Routinely communicate with employees to ensure compliance with established safety, quality and productivity policies and procedures. Work to achieve “Zero” accidents by taking a leadership role in safety
• Assist Maintenance Supervisor with PSM program for site and all audits from regulatory agencies.
• Assist Maintenance Supervisor with managing the Waste Water Treatment Plant to sustain performance and regulatory compliance.

Required:
• Bachelor's Degree required, engineering or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years supervisory experience with a proven track record of developing and leading high performance teams.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability communicate across all levels of the organization
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high change environment
• Proven ability to solve problems and sustain results through a data driven process

Asset qualifications:
• Expertise and proficiency in Building Automation System platforms.
• Proficiency in the use of programming software, databases, and historians including RSLogix, FactoryTalk, Visual Basic, SQL, OSI PI, Allen Bradley Control Logix, SLC, MIcrologix PLCs, RS5000, Middleware, Wonderware and Factory Talk.
• Various network and communication protocols: Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net; Modbus; etc.
• AC and DC power, motors, and motor controls.
• Demonstrated expertise in the area of field instrumentation such as temperature, pressure, and flow devices typically connected to an automation system.
• Ability to diagnose, repair, and return automation systems back to efficient operation. Must be capable of working in the field and perform troubleshooting of I/O devices.
• Ability to train and coach operations teams in order to increase their ability to work with and operate automation systems.
• Knowledge and proficiency in operation and maintenance of MS Windows based computers, MS Office applications; web based computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Databases, MS Visio, etc.
• Must be self-motivated with the ability to work alone, as well as with multiple teams consisting of operational staff, client managers, vendors, and contractors via on site presence, telephone, and email.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Understanding of service level agreements and key performance indicators.

• Varying temperatures: freezer area 18 – 24 degrees below zero, other areas with heat up to 120 degrees; wet environment
