Job Role: Software Engineering Internship

About the Role:

Our Unified Platform Group has entered an exciting new era, fostering a culture of excellence, and creating a working environment that promotes a customer-centric approach in everything we do. Elektron Core Development is a group within UPG and is responsible for the technology that underpins Thomson Reuters real-time financial information services. Our IT systems are the main vehicle for the transportation of news and financial information products that deliver two thirds of the Company’s revenue.

The Elektron Core development team is seeking four interns for a 12-month period. This position would be suitable for a student undertaking a placement year on degree course in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related disciplines. The successful candidates will work under the guidance of experienced software engineers and at the end of the placement can expect to have gained practical experience of work as part of a large software engineering team and have developed professional working values that will underpin their future careers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Software development
- Platform Engineering
- Application Testing and Quality Assurance
- Development support to operations groups
- System and hardware qualification platform testing

Desired profile

Required Skills:
- Effective team worker
- Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative
- Good interpersonal and communications skills
- Good problem diagnosis and solving skills
- Good organisation and time management skills
- C-like language experience e.g. C, C++, C#

Desired Skills:
- Web development experience including Javascript
- Java
- Linux experience
- Knowledge of agile methodology
- Knowledge of open source tools such as Puppet, Sensu & Graphite.
- Basic knowledge of network topologies
