DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS:

Position Overview:

The primary role of the Maintenance Mechanic is to provide competent & effective mechanic maintenance support to Plant operations. The ability to perform work safely, meet the needs of Operations, execute the maintenance program & comply w/all safety codes is paramount. The Mechanic must identify, troubleshoot & repair problems in mechanical systems that occur in production equipment & processes. He/she must be able to run tests, isolate problems, remove/replace failed components, determine failure modes by studying worn components & perform other tasks as necessary. He/she also performs preventive maintenance & upgrades to mechanical systems.

The Mechanic is recognized as skilled & knowledgeable in mechanical systems & is sought out to support troubleshooting, development of process/system improvements, preventive & predictive maintenance development & contractor performance monitoring, when necessary, for new equipment or process systems. He/she is responsible for notifying management if a workplace becomes too hazardous because of some mechanical problem.

Function Related Activities / Key responsibilities:

·  Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, & calibration.
·  Analyze test results, machine error messages, & information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.
·  Clean, lubricate, & adjust parts, equipment, & machinery.
·  Disassemble machinery & equipment to remove parts & make repairs.
·  Examine parts for defects such as breakage & excessive wear.
·  Observe & test the operation of machinery & equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions, using voltmeters& other testing devices.
·  Operate newly repaired machinery & equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
·  Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
·  Repair & maintain the operating condition of industrial production & processing machinery & equipment.
·  Repair & replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery & equipment.
·  Troubleshoot & repair machine electrical & controls malfunctions such as 3-phase motor replacements, photo eye adjustments, servos, machine timing & circuit replacements, etc.
·  Study blueprints & manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation & operation of machinery.
·  Cut & weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, & assemble new equipment.
·  Demonstrate equipment functions & features to machine operators.
·  Record parts & materials used, & order or requisition new parts & materials as necessary.
·  Record repairs & maintenance performed.
·  Enter codes & instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.
·  Sometimes repairs or modifications are performed when blueprints & manufactures specifications are unavailable or incomplete.
·  Applies a wide variety of methods, procedures & techniques to lay out, install, align, repair, overhaul, & maintain various types of machines encompassing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, & electrical systems & operation principles.
·  Utilizes safety & security practices & procedures following established rules & regulations & maintains a safe, clean, & secure work environment.
·  Communicate w/ management, engineers, mechanics, & equipment operators to advise them if there are any potential mechanical hazards.
·  Execute the maintenance work schedule as provided by his/her supervisor. Proper execution of the work schedule will require strategic decisions to ensure the scheduled work will be completed within the period scheduled. This effort requires the Lead to be aware of CIP, sanitation & other periods of downtime.
·  Keep the assigned Lead informed of all issues which may affect the operational capability of the area processes & equipment.
·  Seek assistance from the Lead on the work priority when confusion or more tasks than manpower exists.
·  Examine jobs to be done & determine scope & best way to accomplish the work. Consult w/requester, maintenance planner, &/or supervisor when necessary.
·  Obtain one-lines, drawings, instructional manuals & special procedures, as needed, from files or other sources. Make any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
·  Ensure the safety needs are given a top priority in operations support & work execution. Some examples are Arc Flash/Shock Hazard safety, confined space entry, LOTO, hazardous materials, h& tool safe use, etc.
·  Have complete knowledge of plant's processes & packaging systems.
·  Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in the execution of the work schedule & operational support. Ensure the shop is maintained in a safe & orderly fashion.
·  Protect the integrity & quality of product at all times.
·  Attend meetings & supports continuous improvement initiatives.
·  Recommend equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs.
·  Suggest improvements to all maintenance processes, including planning scheduling, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, CMMS, storeroom operations, etc.
·  Promote the conservation of energy.
·  Maintain close contact with assigned maintenance crew, the production supervisor & equipment operators.
·  Keep the maintenance supervisor &/or manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations & seeks advice on matters outside of their knowledge or authority.
·  Make recommendations for system improvement.
·  Recommend additions to storeroom stock.
·  Perform other tasks & special assignments as requested by management.

Measurement of Position Performance

·   Ability to do the work of the Maintenance Tech - Mechanic position without more than normal supervision.
·  Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, & limitations of production equipment & processes. Knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems, controls, etc.
·  Knowledge of related electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, & hydraulic systems.
·  Knowledge of safety, environmental, & security regulations, practices, & procedures. Knowledge of regulations, procedures, & policies related to records maintenance & documentation.
·  Skill in troubleshooting mechanical issues.
·  Skill in the use of h& & power tools of the mechanical trade to include a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechanical test & measurement equipment.
·  Ability to test, time, synchronize, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, & install mechanical systems.
·  Ability to read & interpret a variety of technical data, such as blueprints, diagrams, & technical orders relating to the mechanical trade.

Job Requirements

·  Meet all basic plant employment criteria, to include a good attendance record
·  Must have 3-5 years' experience in this role or equal vocational & technical training.
·  Must supply own tools per the Maintenance required tool list
·  Maintenance background, which includes hydraulics, controls, welding, electrical, PLC's, machine tools & pneumatics
·  Working knowledge of h& & power tools.
·  Able to read one-line diagrams, blueprints & schematics.
·  Must be certified on the training plan for this position within 60 working days of start date
·  Able to lift up to 50 pounds
·  Ability to work on multiple levels, such as catwalks, ladders, etc. & ability to work in extreme temperatures
·  Manual & finger dexterity
·  Ability to visually identify defective parts
·  Ability to hear machine operations sounds to detect defective parts, machine failures, & changes in speed & other routine running conditions
·  Must have strong problem solving skills & the ability to work efficiently under stressful situations
·  Must be able to work flexible shift schedules up to 12-hour shifts as determined by business need
·  Must be able to use a computer & associated software programs
·  Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of Quality, Service & Cost objectives.

Achieving a passing score on the Maintenance Technician test is required.  Must supply own tools per the Maintenance Required Tool list.
