Part-time Cookery Teacher

Job description

The Avenue Cookery School is a funky, fun and family-run business teaching cooking to all ages and abilities! We are a bubbly small team bursting with energy and drive, seeking a like-minded, native English speaking Freelance Cookery Teacher to join our team and assist our chefs, Diana and Richard, who will offer you full guidance and support.

Our team have years of experience and heaps of knowledge ready to share with the right person! The candidate needs to be extra efficient, reliable, and have spot-on initiative plus the ability to speak and understands English at a high level. Experience in cooking is essential and knowing their way around a kitchen and have a good laid back character!

The candidate must be able to confidently share their cooking experiences and abilities with students. The role is a truly amazing way to learn more about teaching as an assistant, where experience in teaching is not essential or if you already have experience we can get you teaching some classes pretty quickly!

If you have a passion in food or want to pursue a career in food in any way, this really is the best way to learn. It's not for the faint of heart as the kitchen is fast paced and will involve helping the chefs mis en place, cleaning, tidying and general kitchen upkeep, including washing up and eventually helping and guiding students - those who are afraid to get their hands dirty need not apply! No reason for clock watching, thumb twiddling or personal phone use - a get things done attitude is essential!

It is very important that the person we work with is hard working but at the same time easy going as due to the nature of our family business, it is not a 'clock-work' operation. We are all straightforward and to the point so need someone who can take constructive criticism as well as be honest back. Being highly organised, tidy and flexible in the role is a must as we are a small company and when needed, we all pitch in together as a team.

The shifts are on a sporadic basis so great to fit in around other jobs. Our classes run days but especially evenings and weekends. We do not expect you to be able to attend all the classes but reliability on the ones you are booked on is a must.

Please make your application personal and specific to the job and addressed to me, Sophie. - I will not read past the first line if it is a generic email - we are a personal company and want to work with like-minded people.

Desired profile

A trained chef or someone training to be a chef is preferable but not required. The candidate must have good experience in food and cooking and be able to confidently share this knowledge with students.

Make every future a success.
