The Thales Security and Communications (SIX) Business Unit supports and develops state of the art communications, protection and security systems and products for a number of high profile customers. Our systems provide the means by which all communications are undertaken whilst protecting lives at all levels.


The Role

To work within the SIX Energy Services portfolio team for the purposes of ensuring that the Long Term Support project customer requirements are met and within the agreed timescales. The role will require close working with specialist sub-contractors and the customer. This role provides support to the Thales systems and software teams on fault identification on the Data Processing & Control Systems (DPCS) either within the reference facility or offsite at EDF Energy nuclear stations.

This role will report directly to the Thales Technical Manager and include interaction with the customer and suppliers. Strong behaviours are essential with a can do attitude and ability to share knowledge to reduce reliance on single points of contact. The role will be based in Lancaster and will require occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

· Creating specifications of the hardware items to be re-engineered, where possible maintaining the technology used and or putting forward technological feasible replacements, by capturing the customer requirements.
· Provide support to the Long Term Support project to provide engineering knowledge on items that are no longer supportable and or obsolete and require continual support and possible replacement.
· Ensure that the design and test documentation comply with Thales requirements.
· Create and maintain requirements traceability to ensure any delivered solution fulfils the customer requirements.
· Contribute to the review process of project documentation, both engineering and management.
· Provide reliable estimates of task duration and ensure timely completion of agreed deliverables
· Reporting to management through concise and coherent status updates.
· To enhance test methods and procedures, improve processes and standards to assure highest quality standards are achieved across all released deliverables.
· Assist with the maintenance and on-going development of the test infrastructure, platform(s) and environment. Skills

· Working knowledge and understanding of legacy industrial computing systems used in a safety related environment (configuration, addressing and timing) for example Intel 286, Honeywell Bull DPS, TTL technology and legacy programmable devices.
· A degree of competence in Windows, to include Microsoft Word, Excel and Visio.
· An awareness of hardwired communication technologies, protocols and standards.
· Recognition of customers Safety requirements and how these should be supported by the engineering team.
· Full driving licence holder.
· Sharing knowledge within the team, both in receiving and distributing
· Working knowledge and understanding of the EMC and LV Directives and relevant standards.
· Working knowledge and understanding of the development lifecycle for systems with both hardware and software.
Experience & Qualifications:

· Knowledge of the EDF Energy legacy DPCS Architecture & Hardware Technologies in the nuclear fleet 9Desirable)
· Substantial experience in supporting, designing, proving and delivering Hardware solutions
· Honours Degree in a relevant Engineering Field (or proven experience) Apply
