Job description

Description

The Role

Tesla is looking for a strong technical and team leader to lead SQA and Automated Validation of Infotainment (UI) software systems. This is a highly cross-functional leadership role with executive leadership visibility, where you will work collaboratively to develop validation strategies across multiple levels of test environments, design software and hardware frameworks to execute these strategies, lead root cause investigation of issues found, and drive decisions on feature/release readiness. In short, you will be responsible for the quality of Infotainment software.

To be successful in this role, you must have strong software fundamentals, experience designing reliable and scalable test frameworks, talent for building world-class engineering teams, incredible attention to detail, and a passion for the discipline of software validation. You don't rest until problems are fully understood and demonstrably, provably resolved. You use data and metrics to drive decisions and communicate status, and thrive on creating order from ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Set the vision and strategy for validation of sophisticated, complex, safety-critical systems and rich user experiences.

• Collaborate closely with the software engineering, hardware engineering, and control systems development teams to ensure that the validation systems (1) stay ahead of changing requirements and (2) drive improvements in the design of the driver assistance and infotainment systems.

• Lead the architecture and development of software-in-the-loop (simulation) and hardware-in-the-loop validation systems that enable rapid development of new automated test cases.

• Investigate bugs and write clear, concise, consistently reproduce-able bug reports.

• Monitor, triage, and drive resolution of issues.

• Report to executive leadership on quality metrics and key performance indicators.

• Overall, own the quality of the Autopilot and Infotainment software in our vehicles, with:

o Accountability for the delivery of high-quality software.

o Authority to determine release readiness (and to stop the train from leaving the station).

Desired profile

Requirements

• Extensive experience in manual and automated validation of complex, user-facing software applications and embedded systems.

• Experience establishing and driving quality metrics and clear, measurable goals.

• Proven track record of delivering mission-critical projects efficiently and pragmatically.

• Strong intuition for, and interest in, designing systems for testability and scalability.

• Relentless drive and highest standards for quality.

• Ability to dive into technical details, eliminate ambiguity, and communicate precisely.

• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced, collaborative environment.

• Willingness to hold the development teams accountable for issues, stand up for quality in the face of schedule pressure to release, and represent the customer's best interests to the team.

• Ability to lead and solve problems calmly and efficiently under pressure.

• Greater than 3 years of experience leading, growing, and developing world-class engineering teams (test engineer, quality engineer, validation engineer, software engineer).

• BS, MS or PhD in EE/CE/CS, or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability.
