Tesla Motors is seeking a motivated, experienced, and knowledgeable Production Control Project Engineer to support the planning, coordinating and delivering of Material to the factory lines. The project portfolio includes development of material handling equipment, process improvement and internal projects (Stationary Storage and test equipment).

A successful candidate will need to be knowledgeable in using the major Design systems (CATIA & AutoCAD) used to support Engineering & Process: PLM (Tesla uses Enovia), ERP & MES (Tesla uses Warp drive & MES – homegrown) and the associated processes to manage equipment, purchasing, planning and delivery. They will need to be able to review bills of materials, on-hand inventory levels and open orders. He/she should be skilled in estimating cost and schedule impacts of material changes. He/she should be able to communicate effectively in order to collaborate with partner organizations: manufacturing, material flow, NPI, lean, engineering, purchasing & operations. Project engineers own the design and technical scope of a project as well as traditional project management functions such as timelines, budgets and coordination’s with vendors and other groups within Tesla.

Responsibilities

• Clear, frequent communication between cross-functional teams to achieve Material, Hiring/training, Process Development/Implementation, and Equipment Implementation targets for product launch.

• Managing all aspects of the part flow for production lines and publish performance metrics on the project / parts you own.

• Validating that parts have been inspected & signed-off to support a build by design engineering. If modifications required, organizing the subcontracting of that work.

• Analyzing data sets to support equipment engineering and implement visualizations in supporting the daily operations for production

• Supporting development of the material handling strategy from warehouse to production floor

• Design, develop, support, and implement solutions for an effective information material flows throughout the factory to help improve material flow, consumptions, and inventory accuracy

• Work with the material flow engineering team on concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, integration testing, project management, and handoff for implementation to support the production operations.

• Work fluidly in a highly cross-functional team environment involving manufacturing and product development teams, as well as supply chain specialists, manufacturing engineers, and logistics personnel.

• Plan, schedule, and manage the material handling systems for delivering time-critical components to support the portfolio of parts / program that you are responsible for.

Minimum Requirements

• BS degree in Supply Chain, Industrial, Mechanical, Automotive engineering, Economic or similar.

• Previous experience in production control, materials management, quality/process improvement in a manufacturing/automotive environment

• Ability to balance a diverse work portfolio and dynamically prioritize tasks based on the trade-off between urgency (respond to a line down situation) and importance

• Analytical capabilities including data analysis to optimize delivery costs and assess Make versus Buy decisions (Strong MS Excel Skills)

• Open-minded, collaborative and team-oriented attitude

• Understanding of lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement.

• Strong analytical and organizational skills. Ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty.

• Ability to materialize concepts into a functional operational model working diligently with the supervisors and operators in the shop floor.

• Professional and positive communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Supply Chain, Industrial, Mechanical, Automotive engineering, Economic or similar.

• ERP Certification is desirable (optional)

• Experienced at assessing manufacturability, process design and able to clearly articulate issues and propose resolutions. A key indicator of success is driving this feedback upstream and achieving root cause resolution.
