Factory Simulation & Analysis Engineer
Buffalo (Erie County) Design / Civil engineering / Industrial engineering
Job description
Description
The Role
Job Title: Factory Simulation and Analysis Engineer
Location: Primarily working in Buffalo, New York with up to 20% domestic travel to Reno, NV and the Bay Area.
Team: Factory Design- Modeling (w/ focus on Buffalo Gigafactory 2)
Responsibilities
· Develop analysis and models to enable factory design improvements:
· Factory cost model: understand largest cost drivers and identify low hanging fruits for cost reduction. Help identify and quantify cost impact of factory layout optimization, manufacturing and utility systems design improvements
· Model utility systems to understand energy and utility use, optimize equipment design and control strategy
· Model manufacturing processes to identify and quantify design and operational improvements leading to higher quality, throughput and lower cost.
· Collaborate with industrial engineers on discrete event simulation of the factory to balance production rate across processes, understand material flow, determine buffer requirements and maximize factory throughput.
Desired profile
Requirements
· Required Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Master’s degree or PhD preferred. Strong academic record expected.
· Evidence of exceptional ability.
· Education/work experience must include product design.
· High energy individual, questions industry standard / state of the art, drives towards optimal solution from a 1 st principle point of view.
· Strong technical problem solver, system level thinker capable of identifying highest impact projects and making complex trade offs.
· Strong engineering fundamentals relevant to solar manufacturing processes & utility systems: heat transfer, thermodynamics, mechanics, fluid mechanics, chemistry, gas & liquid phase separation, etc. Able to leverage existing skill set on a wide range of physics application problems.
· Analytical and quantitative mindset.
· Good at building relationships and working effectively with multiple and diverse teams. Eager to discuss engineering challenges with project stakeholders to develop most effective analysis to improve factory design.
· Strong scientific programming skills (generic knowledge more valuable than experience with specific tools, exposure to Matlab / Simulink, Python, EES or equivalent is a plus).
· Exposure to PV fundamentals (solid state physics, cell design, manufacturing techniques), factory engineering, manufacturing equipment design, high throughput manufacturing is advantageous.
