JOB PURPOSE (summary of outputs of the job)

The UKBU Offshore Support Surveyor role has both an offshore and onshore content. A key interface between the project personnel offshore and the operational team of the vessel. The vision is to provide a seamless interface between onshore engineering, offshore execution and final project deliverables providing specialist survey support in these areas.

The role is part of the Engineering Support team, providing Engineering Assurance to the UKBU Business Streams, whilst ensuring best practices, development of standards, and governance across the UKBU as a whole.

Offshore the UKBU Offshore Support Surveyor role is to provide specialist support to the Project Teams in regards to all operational aspect of the projects. They are the first point of contact for executing positioning and navigational tasks and addressing daily operational project survey issues, by being the efficient link between the vessel, project personnel and the offshore operational team.

The role involves supporting the projects activities under Project Surveyor (PS), Project Engineers and OCM/OCS guidance, to ensure readiness for up and coming activities whilst maximising the efficiency of the project execution through the coordination of survey tasks. In addition, responsible for the recording and control of results, the analysis, interpretation and reporting of data obtained in accordance with specifications.

Onshore the UKBU Offshore Support Surveyor will be an active member of the Engineering Support Team responsible assisting the Project Surveyors (PS) in providing specialist survey expertise to projects teams and business development.

A significant output of the role will be the continued development of the peer review process for operations support and engineering assurance. In addition, support to the Survey Team Lead (STL) in ensuring business objectives.

KEY ACTIVITIES

Offshore

§ Actively participate in project execution including offshore survey support to Project Surveyor (PS), Project Engineer and Offshore Vessel Manager. Record and maintain data logs, weekly reports and involvement in daily toolbox talks with projects and vessel.

§ Facilitate installation, calibrations and checks on navigation and peripheral devices positioning systems on but not limited to Vessel/ROV gyros, DGPS systems, USBL, CTD Sensor etc.

§ Execute and delivery of positioning and navigation tasks according to survey specifications, project and client requirements.

§ Perform computations and general field reporting in accordance with specifications.

§ Perform appropriate checks of data and computations.

Onshore

§ Provide Survey operations support and technical expertise to PS as required during the tender review process.

§ Provide assistance to PS during the procedure writing process, including review of Survey Subcontractor procedures ensuring they are fully compliant with vessel operating specificities/characteristics.

§ Ensuring that the project adheres to BMS process and procedure.

§ Participation and review of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments where required.

§ Participation in Survey Operations undesired event investigations and implementation of corrective and preventative actions where required;

§ Support the PS and PMT's through liaison with clients and Survey Subcontractors in respect of survey and positioning related issues.

§ Liaise with PS, PMT's and Survey Subcontractors on the procurement/hire of suitable survey related equipment.

§ Provide survey assurance for UKBU through participation in the Operations review process

§ Provide assistance in UKBU/TMOS interface for survey activities where required.

§ Participate in development of guidelines, standards, technical and operational documents to ensure assurance and best practises are developed and adhered to.

§ Provide assistance to UKBU Operations Department in regards to Survey Sub-contractor management as required.

§ Other tasks as delegated by the STL or PS.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

5.

QUALIFICATIONS (professional, technical, academic)

Essential:

· Degree qualification in a scientific or engineering subject or relevant industry experience.

Preferred:

· BSc in Surveying.

6.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

Essential:

· Previous experience in the execution of survey operations offshore.

Preferred:

· Previous minimum experience of the execution of subsea construction operations.

· Experience of onshore project management of survey operations.

· Knowledge / Understanding of Technip UKBU-specific operations and assets.

TECHNICAL/GENERAL COMPETENCIES

Essential:

· Knowledge of survey navigational software.

Preferred:

· Winfrog experience.

· LBL Acoustics and Structure Installation.

· Experience in survey support onboard construction and/or dive support vessels.
