Project Controls (ECP) New Grad

Houston, Texas

This position in envisioned as a new graduate entering the work force through a rotation program providing support to the Estimating, Project Controls, and Risk (ECP) group. The employee will rotate through the various disciplines of Cost Control, Planning & Scheduling, Estimating, and Risk Management over a 6-12 month duration. Additional training will be provided during the rotation to expose the candidate to other functions in the business such as Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Finance, Legal, Tax, and Subcontracts. At the completion of the rotation program, it is expected that the employee will be placed in one of the ECP disciplines to continue their career.The Estimating, Project Controls, and Risk (ECP) group plays an essential business advisory role supporting Project Management in the effective execution of complex projects. This career path prepares you to be an active contributor to the entire project life cycle, from project setup through engineering design, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, start-up operations, and project close-out. Problem solving skills and analytical capabilities are applied to monitor the performance of the project and deviations from budget, schedule, and work scope. Close interactions to other key project participants should lead to in depth understanding of day-to-day project execution. This program may also involve periodic contact with both Executive Management and Clients.

Examples of the topics that may be involved in the rotation assignment are as follows:

COST CONTROL

· 
Setup baseline budget and administer cost database

· 
Collect actual expenditures for labor hours and cost as well as for material/equipment

· 
Identify cost trends and labor productivity being experienced on the project

· 
Support critical function of forecasting total cost for the life of project

· 
Identify adverse cost impacts through routine analysis and reporting

· 
Support the change management process

PLANNING & SCHEDULING

· 
Support the project planning process

· 
Assist development of the detailed schedule

· 
Provide summary schedules

· 
Identify and track the critical path

· 
Identify schedule deviations and potential delays

· 
Sets up and monitor the physical earned progress for the project

ESTIMATING:

· 
Participate in the project acquisition process preparing the Cost Estimates for proposals to prospective Clients.

· 
Apply norms, past project data, and experience to define cost, labor hours, installation quantities, subcontracting cost, etc

· 
Determine associated cost risk and contingencies

· 
Provide cost estimates for significant change orders

RISK MANAGEMENT

· 
Prepare project cost sensitivity analysis (CSA)

· 
Participate in risk identification workshop

· 
Prepare and monitor risk register

· 
Prepare Risk Potential Evaluation Template (RPET)

Must Have Skills:

· 
Self-motivated and detail oriented professional

· 
Ability to make deadlines and work under time pressure

· 
Good analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills

· 
Advanced skills with MS Excel software

· 
Bachelor degree or relevant experience in lieu of degree

Nice to Have Skills:

· 
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Construction Management

· 
Exposure to MS Access software

· 
Exposure to MS PowerPoint software

· 
Exposure to concepts related to estimating, project controls, and risk in the energy industry

· 
Exposure to topics in the energy transition business
