Job Title:

A4 Environmental Engineer (Modeller: underwater noise, oil spill, drill cuttings, marine discharges)

Job purpose:

Provision of environmental engineering support with particular emphasis on marine modelling, including development and support of in-house proprietary models.

Reporting lines and interactions :

Ā·  Hierarchically reports to: Marine Modelling Lead
Ā·  Operationally reports to: Underwater Noise Modelling Specialist
Ā·  Directly supervises: N/A

Key interactions (internally, externally):

Working within the Environmental Skills Group to support environmental projects and studies as well as providing environmental input to multi-discipline studies.

Typical background, qualifications and experience required :

Must have:

Ā·  Degree qualified in science or engineering discipline
Ā·  Previous experience in a similar role within industry or academia
Ā·  Experience of numerical modelling and simulation in Windows and Linux environments
Ā·  Software development experience using Python, Fortran, C, MatLab or similar
Ā·  Flexible/Adaptable
Ā·  Ability to work effectively under pressure
Ā·  Ability to work within teams
Ā·  Excellent report writing and communication skills
Ā·  Expertise with Microsoft Office software (including Word, Excel, VBA, PowerPoint).

Nice to have:

Ā·  PhD qualification in scientific \ engineering modelling and simulation
Ā·  PhD \ Post-Doctoral research in marine noise modelling
Ā·  Experience of using numerical models for environmental impact assessment
Ā·  Knowledge of oil and gas industry
Ā·  Experience of using marine sound propagation models
Ā·  Knowledge of permitting and regulatory regime in UKCS offshore
Ā·  Experience of working in a consultancy environment
Ā·  Experience of using GIS to prepare graphics for reports

Main accountabilities:

Ā·  Set up, run and interpret the output from Genesis in house underwater noise model under supervision from Genesis noise expert
Ā·  Set up, run and interpret the output from marine models (oil spill, drill cuttings and marine discharges) with assistance from Genesis modelling team
Ā·  Prepare technical modelling reports (either standalone reports or for inclusion in Environmental Statements)
Ā·  Assist in preparation of proposals
Ā·  Assist in preparing materials for presentation to clients
Ā·  Identification and interpretation of relevant regulations and standards
Ā·  Implementing, testing and validating improvements in Genesis' marine modelling software tools and methods
